Serving in law enforcement is a dangerous and important job.

However.

This article omits important information, thereby implying that law enforcement is somehow becoming an increasingly dangerous job.
That doesn’t appear to be the case.

2017 saw 129 officer fatalities. There have only been four years since 1959 that had fewer fatalities.

The average from 2002 to 2016 was 159. 2018, so far, has seen 144.
There were 5,147 fatal work injuries in the United States in 2017. By far, the most common cause was transportation incidents, which accounted for 2,077 (40%) of deaths.

In 2018, 50 officers died in traffic-related incidents. 52 officers died in firearms-related incidents.
The most dangerous jobs in America, the ones that continue to have the most fatalities, are things like logging and fishing. Agriculture and construction. Garbage collectors and steel workers have twice the rate of fatalities per year as law enforcement.
What I’m saying is don’t take a press release from The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund and turn it into a sloppy news piece using their headline without doing even the slightest bit of research.

You don’t work for them.
local news out here giving anyone with a press officer free PR smdh
