This was rigged from the start with the 1 week limit. Even if these constraints are eased, they’ll have eaten up precious time.

Of course they are. It isn’t an investigation, it’s a fig leaf.
It’s easy for GOP Senators to prevent sham investigation: Publicly say no vote for Kavanaugh until FBI has total investigatory authority.
Anything short of that (like burning precious time “talking all weekend” about how to prevent a sham) *is itself a sham*
