Ebonyi is one of the three #Lassafever hotspot states in #Nigeria. In the last 2 years, the state has improved its capacity to prepare for, detect and respond to outbreaks, with support from @NCDCgov and several partners
I was very pleased to see the expansion of parts of the treatment centre, especially the creation of more triage areas in the hospital. The treatment centre has learnt from previous healthcare workers' infections and has put in more efforts to protect staff
Since my last visit in February 2018, the virology laboratory in Abakaliki has improved its functions greatly. What this means is the state no longer depends on sending samples to other states- reducing time lag and improving management of cases
The journey to improve Ebonyi state's capacity to detect and respond to #Lassafever cases is exemplary. The synergy among the state, teaching hospital, my Team at @NCDCgov & several partners especially @MSF_Belgique shows we are #strongertogether
The journey doesn't end here. We recognise there are several gaps that still need to be filled. As we approach the dry season when #Lassafever cases are usually high, we will work with all states to ensure a better level of preparedness and response
