Unable to produce ANY evidence that the imprisoned Catalan leaders ever acted violently, Spanish courts have created a narrative of psychological crimes with repeated references to the defendants' thoughts.

Orwellian.

1. "Violence was consciously assumed and sought".

(Thread)
2.
- They "accepted the violent drift"...
- "Their calls to protest were done with the knowledge that the protests" would be violent...
3.
- "They embraced and sought confrontation"
- They were "aware that with this situation there was a high degree of probability of the use of violent attitudes and confrontation"
4.
There was, supposedly, a widely recognized "very high probability that violent acts would take place" if they carried out a referendum.
5.
- They acted "in full knowledge that the State would not accept" a referendum.
- The took "into consideration the use of all the means necessary to achieve their objective... including the violence necessary to ensure the intended criminal outcome".
6.
- "They must have supported the possibility that the process would end up resorting to the instrumental use of force"... because this is "consistent with the incessant promotion of mobilisations".

(Side note "incessant promotion of mobilisations" as evidence of a crime???)
7.
They should be kept in pre-trial prison because, despite being in jail, they maintain their "pro-sovereignty ideology". Which means that there is a risk of repeating the "crime".
There is simply no MATERIAL EVIDENCE that the Catalan politicians ever used or called for violence.

They risk decades in prison for "violent" crimes based on what the Prosecution says they were thinking: "They must have known", "They sought", etc.

Psychological evidence.
It's worth recalling that violence WAS ordered to be carried out on the day of the Catalan referendum: by the Spanish Government, which had sent 6,000 police from other areas of Spain to stop the vote.

THAT is the trial that should be taking place.
The trial of Catalan independence leaders (and their pre-trial imprisonment) should never have taken place.

It is a political trial.
The charges are construed for political purposes.
Pre-trial prison was used to alter political majorities.

They are clearly political prisoners.
