There are reasons to not support Beto O’Rourke. This is not one of them. O’Rourke took no money from oil PACs or any other PACs; he got donations from oilco EMPLOYEES—in small dollar amounts—because he ran for US Senate in Texas, the state with 40% of all US oil & gas jobs.
The Grist article calls out 29 donations from oil & gas execs. The average size of donations to O’Rourke from oilco employees was $166. The donation cap is $2500+$2500.

O’Rourke raised $75 MILLION for his Senate campaign against Ted Cruz.
To put this into perspective: Running in a state that is synonymous with oil, just 0.35% of all donations to O’Rourke came from employees of the oil industry.

This is not buying what buying influence looks like.
Do you know who the number one recipient of oil industry funds in the US Senate is, including millions from oil PACs?

O’Rourke’s 2018 opponent, Ted “The Zodiac” Cruz.
Make legitimate critiques of candidates, please. We have hundreds on the Democratic side and none are perfect, but we don’t need to give in to the temptation to use specious and unfounded attacks on them when Republicans are eager for the chance to do the same.
