.@ProfMJCleveland the Grassley/Graham referral, when made, always appeared to be an effort to call out the FBI for lying about (denying) Chris Steele shopped dossier to the media... It makes sense Mueller would drop it like a hot potato.

Remember this was early January 2018 (prior to later admissions) when the FBI was still claiming, falsely, Chris Steele never told them of his media contacts to push the dossier.
Grassley and Graham referred Steele, because Steele openly admitted to sharing the dossier with media. The FBI was *claiming* (telling congress) Steele told them he didn't share the dossier with media. In essence the FBI was lying.
So to prove the FBI was being dishonest, Grassley and Graham made a criminal referral to the DOJ. [Both knowing the referral would force the FBI to admit (they did later) that Steele never made the claim].

ex. put in a phone number, get all metadata connected to that number, including address book, call logs, and *geolocation*.
FISA can be used as an electronic tracker.

In the same way Mueller needed to grab control over Flynn, Papadopoulos, Manafort and Cohen to give the his Russia conspiracy investigation breathing room (while actually working to build an obstruction case) the same duplicitous motive appears to exist within the Assange arrest.
With the actual U.S. and British "Spying" during the 2016 campaign now starting to surface; the actors on both sides of the Atlantic -those who have an agenda to hide their real collusion- also have an interest in throwing a bag over Assange.
For current U.S. and U.K. interests, Russian hacking and Russian interference need to exist. Corrupt U.S. and British intelligence and government entities need the Russian conspiracy-collusion-interference narrative to remain in place.

FBI used Fusion GPS-hired Chris Steele until the end of Oct, when he was terminated for lying about leaks to the media. But Fusion & Steele were able to continue funnelling info to the FBI using Nellie Ohr and her husband Bruce Ohr, a top DOJ official. thefederalist.com/2018/07/13/5-k…
Yesterday, Strzok admitted that Bruce Ohr, husband of Fusion GPS operative Nellie Ohr, funneled documents to the FBI related to the Russia case.
Grassley sent a letter to DOJ/FBI last week calling for the declassification of reports summarizing Ohr’s info-sharing meetings w/FBI. FD-302s demonstrated that Bruce Ohr continued to pass along allegations from Steele to the FBI after the FBI suspended its relationship w/Steele.
