The Berkshire meeting ended with an educational discussion of what they learned in the See's Candies business. They used it to talk about how people who try to use formulas in business and investing are often fooling themselves and whether brands can travel and businesses scale.
They do not sit through the Q&A to inform professional investors. Their target is a shareholder who is not a professional investor. They are not trying to help hedge funds gain 20 more basis points in retrun. They don't give stock tips. Which reminds me, I need to make soup.

Buffett said twice this morning that Berkshire does not give away advice on specific fish. But he loves to teach people about ways to improve their their fishing ability generally. The only good stock tips are about making soup. I will make soup using a ham bone after the event.

1/ OMG, the end of good times. No more left to do. Where’s the innovation. Shocking news from Apple on revenue, but needs some context.

Maturing or mature markets are not dead markets. The world did not change overnight even with this announcement.

This isn’t this is fine. This is fine but with a circle/slash around it.
2/ Smartphones are the first product that penetrated nearly the entire world from essentially two vendors (“google” and Apple). That itself is shocking.

It means dynamics at play are new to everyone. Predictions about future are tricky when one runs out of untapped customers.
3/ As many like @benedictevans and @asymco shown the growth in iPhone units has been slowing (to shrinking by some measures). That led to stopping the reporting of units from Apple “certainly a sign” as many noted.

The replace-libraries-with-Amazon thing is such a fascinating microcosm of the wretchedness of our current take culture.
First some hapless, unheard-of practitioner of the dismal science has, as is his discipline's wont, a very rational and logical epiphany about the market inefficiency of an institution whose very purpose is to provide a service outside the market.
In times of yore the take would have been read by a few other academics, or perhaps raised some eyebrows in a regional paper, and in either case been promptly forgotten.

Happy to oblige! The biggest reason that a few frameworks dominate the landscape is probably straightforward inertia. Most devs (those of use who chat about this stuff on Twitter are NOT representative) don't want to investigate and learn alternatives; they have better things 1/
to do, and engineering PMs aren't picking the 'best' technology, they're picking the safe one that means they'll be able to hire some poor sap to maintain everything a couple of years down the line. Nobody ever got fired for buying IBM. These dynamics favour incumbents. 2/
So does the cacophony of options. Why do tech meetups always serve pepperoni pizza, even though almost no-one would actually *choose* it given alternatives? Because it's something that very few people will object to. It gets the job done — it's 'good enough'. 3/
