1. The DC Federal District Court has consistently exceptional judges: James Boasberg, Emmet Sullivan, Royce Lamberth, Tanya Chutkan, John Bates, Amy Berman Jackson, Reggie Walton, Paul Friedman, Rudy Contreras, Trevor McFadden and many others . . .
2. Yes, I’m biased as I supervised & tried murder cases with some when they were AUSAs (Boasberg), tried murder cases against others when they were DC Public Defenders (Chutkan), tried lengthy RICO cases before some (Lamberth, Hogan), handled death-penalty-eligible cases . . .
3. before others (Kollar-Kotelly) and worked with several others when they were AUSAs with me in the DC US Attorney’s Office. One of the reasons I have such comfort and confidence that #JusticeIsComing is that the judiciary, exemplified by the DC Federal bench . . .
4. will rule honestly and fairly on issues involving abuse of executive branch power and misconduct by a criminal president. #FaithInTheJudiciary

1. As demonstrated by recent court developments (Judge Mehta’s wonderful takedown of Trump’s attorney William Cosovoy and Judge Sullivan’s continued handling of the Flynn matter), the judiciary is finally becoming a player in this sad national saga . . .
2. I’m actually excited to see how the judiciary’s more intimate and proactive involvement will now impact the nature and direction of the battle between Congress and the administration. Not to start waving the flag (ok, to hell with it, let’s wave the flag 🇺🇸), but . . .

1. Is there any reason for hope? I suggest there is. I want to return to Tuesday’s court hearing. Trump’s lawyer argued that Congress cannot issue subpoenas to investigate presidential violations of the law. Judge Mehta plainly and inarguably disagreed with that position. . .
2. Without recounting every observation by Judge Mehta, he made it crystal clear that it’s proper, indeed necessary, for Congress to investigate presidential violations of statutes, presidential violations of the Constitution (the judge specifically mentioned . . .
3. the emoluments clause) and presidential conflicts of interest (the judge referenced a president having a financial interest in the legislation he supports or other actions he takes while in office). Indeed, it was so obvious that Judge Mehta would rule . . .

Roger Stone is in DC federal court this morning for a status conference. “It seems like things are moving smoothly,” Judge Amy Berman Jackson says.
Stone’s lawyers have filed a motion for the complete Mueller report. The defense says their motion is not moot now that the report is largely out. “It’s fair to say that some portions that relate to this defendant in particular are redacted...for appropriate reasons,” judge says.
Prosecutor Jonathan Kravis says the government is not obliged to share the redacted material with Roger Stone and that it’s already meeting its legal burdens for discovery regarding the credibility of witnesses who will testify at the upcoming trial.

The evidence lies in obscure docket entries at the clerk’s office for the DC Circuit.

PAUL MANAFORT & SPECIAL COUNSEL have reached a plea deal, per a criminal information filed in DC. he's pleading guilty to conspiracy against US and conspiracy to obstruct justice.
manafort is due in DC federal court at 11am, where judge amy berman jackson still has to accept the deal. it's also still unclear if he is going to cooperate with robert mueller's team.
can you imagine being the jurors in manafort's alexandria case? you spend 3 weeks of your life on this only for him to plead guilty less than a month later.

Judge Amy Berman Jackson has scheduled Paul Manafort's arraignment on the superseding indictment for Friday at 10 -- at the same time as the hearing on Mueller's motion to revoke his bail. /1
/2 Normally, at the arraignment on a superseding indictment like this one, for a person who was already charged and on bail, the arraignment would involve pleading not guilty and sorting out whether, and how, the new charge impacts bail status.
/3 Recall that Mueller already asked Judge Berman Jackson to revoke Manafort's bail based on the same obstruction allegations that form the basis for the superseding indictment. The standard at that hearing does not favor Manafort:
