Over the course of the #LokSabhaElections2019 we profiled some interesting women, transgender and intersex candidates contesting the polls. Now that the results are in we look at how they fared in the elections.

Jothimani MS of INC has won the Karur Parliamentary seat in TN defeating former Union Minister and AIADMK candidate M Thambidurai by 4 lakh 20 thousand votes. #Panchayat2Parliament#WomeninPolitics#Loksabha
Jothimani @jothims got 63% of the votes in her constituency.

Remya becomes the 2nd Dalit woman MP to be elected from Kerala.
Remya Haridas (INC) has won the Alathur Parliament seat in Kerala defeating the sitting MP Dr. PK Biju of CPI(M) by a lakh and 58 thousand votes. She got 52% votes in her constituency.
Jarjum Ete created history as the first woman to contest the Lok Sabha election from Arunachal Pradesh- from Arunachal (West) constituency against former Union Minister, Kiren Rijiju.
She lost the election by 1 lakh 68 thousand votes.
8 transgender & 1 Intersex candidate contested the elections in April-May 2019
7 for the Lok Sabha and 1 each for the AP & Odisha Assembly.
These were the first general elections since SC passed the NALSA v. Union of India judgement, granting equal rights to trans persons
Ashwathi Rajappan, or Chinju, the first openly intersex candidate (Independent) from the Ernakulam constituency, Kerala against sitting MLA Hibi Eden, Union Minister Alphons Kannanthanam, and former Rajya Sabha MP P Rajeev
They received 0.05% of the votes
Kajal Kinnar, the first trans woman to contest polls in Odisha from the Korei Assembly constituency. She stood 4th among the 7 candidates contesting for the seat with a vote share of 1.01%.
Sneha Kale of Kinnar Samaj, contested as an independent from the Mumbai North Central against bigwigs like Poonam Mahajan (BJP) and Priya Dutt (INC). Her vote share was 5th highest (0.08%) among the 9 independent candidates from the constituency.
Jatin Rangrao Harne, or Jatin Mummy of Jogati Kinnar Samaj contested the Mumbai North East Seat as an Indpendent and received the 3rd highest vote share among the 14 Independent contestants at 0.17%.
M. Radha, TN's only transwoman candidate contested (Ind) from Chennai South. Radha, who works as a cook and campaigned door to door with minimal resources and against DMK's T Sumathy Thangapandian, received the 5th highest vote share at 0.09% among the 28 Independent candidates.
Naresh Kumar Jayaswal, only trans woman candidate from Gujarat, contested the high profile Ahmedabad East constituency as an Independent candidate where she got the 3rd highest vote share (0.23%) among the 11 Independent candidates who contested.
Bhawani Singh, or Bhawani Ma, Uttar Pradesh's only trans woman candidate contested on a AAP ticket from Allahabad constituency up against Rita Bahuguna Joshi of BJP. She got 0.21% votes in the constituency.
Tamanna Simhadri, only trans woman candidate contested from the Mangalagiri for Andhra Pradesh Assembly as an Independent against N. Lokesh- the former IT & Rural Dev. minister of AP

They also aim to increase mineral production and employment, developing a transparent National Mineral Index and clarifying the definition of illegal mines.
The struggles of single women have increased during the lockdown with lack of basic facilities, loss of employment, and increased mental health issues. Yet, they are not recognised in covid support schemes. 1/10
Single women face violation of basic human rights and lack the support they need as society perpetuates a patriarchal norm. They are neither a homogeneous group, and have several intersections that exacerbate their struggle. 2/10
