2. The late 60s saw the convergence of a host of progressive movements--civil rights, feminism, gay liberation, anti-war, anti-colonialism, etc. Amidst this stew of anti-establishmentarianism emerged gonzo cultural figures, like the Yippies. pbs.org/independentlen…
3. When I watch a P*wd*epie video, I'm reminded of figures like Jerry Rubin or Abbie Hoffman. There's a "middle finger to the world" playfulness & rebelliousness that can serve as a catch basin for a host of anti-establishment resentments that point in many political directions.

1. @billmaher is a comedian, so I’d be seriously mistaken to take his views too seriously. Still, the host of HBO’s Real Time has an enormous audience. His views, genuinely or ironically held, are therefore amplified far and wide.

Free speech warriors forget something important. People have a right to free speech but they do not have a right to a platform. Free speech warriors blur the two, because if they didn't, they'd lose.
Moreover, free speech is a right protected by the government against the government. When Facebook shuts you down, that is not an infringement of free speech. FB can do what it wants for any reason.
Furthermore, the president did violate John Brennan's free speech when he revoked his security clearance as punishment fir Brennan's public condemnation of the president. Where is Bill Maher's outrage?

One of the things that is becoming clear, to me at least, is that the layered model (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OSI_model) the whole internet is built on, is censorship friendly. And I don't just mean OSI, but the layers in the app layer. I'll unpack.
I pasted that ridiculous Mendez letter into my Reddit thread (), but I think a more culprit for the reddit move against "dangerous" CAD files is that they're afraid of losing their hosting, CDN, or some lower layer services.
If I ran a community site of any kind, and I saw AWS summarily boot @gunpolicy's Code Is Free Speech dot com, I would factor that in with the Cloudfront censorship and the Azure threat against Gab.ai and have a 😱 moment.

when you actually try to pin down what some sort of inherent "intelligence" is vs "has learned some stuff, addresses ignorance"

It becomes clear that intelligence is a social construct

That is used to maintain privilege and also oppress others
there is no objective way to measure intelligence

there's a wealth of scholarship about how IQ and the SATs are better indicators of "having privilege" than "being intelligent"
Additionally, the racist/ableist fear-mongering about how "crack babies" are born with "lower IQ" and cognitive disability

Has been shown to be the result of poverty and prolonged stress on the human brain
