A hundred years of artificial selection (red & blue indicating up & down selection respectively).
Original datasets from ideals.illinois.edu/handle/2142/35… (incredible that they have individual-level data from back to 1896). My code here: github.com/cooplab/popgen…
Based on ggridges egs from @ClausWilke cran.r-project.org/web/packages/g…
@ClausWilke My first ever use of ggplot. Thanks to @ErinCalfee for guidance. Think I'll retire from ggplot as I doubt I'll make a nicer graph.
"A hundred years of artificial selection" the Movie. Blue shows the individuals selected to form the next generation of the up selection line.
1/2 way through the experiment they took part of the up selection experiment and selected down again (purple).
Note how the variance doesn't decrease much. Suggests that the increase of var in the up line perhaps isnt just issue of scale but that selection may have actually altered the variance. (Although I've not read carefully to check this interp.)
The Illinois long term selection experiment also later selected back up from their down-selection line (light blue)
