I love Franzen but this is a lot of useless drivel.

One, shame or sue the oil companies into stopping their secret funding of climate denial and obstruction. Even they know that’s wrong.
Two, make it socially unacceptable for corporations to support @USChamber, an identified top climate obstructor in America. Yet supported throughout corporate world.
Three, push corporate good guys to make climate a political priority, not just PR and customer relations effort. Essentially zero make any political effort at all.
There are plenty of Republicans who want to solve this but can’t because of malign massive fossil fuel influence and shameful sleepwalk by rest of corporate America.
Focus on the task at hand. Win.

It’s really gotten gross. I guess when your morals have been corroded by years of climate denial, this doesn’t seem so gross to you — but folks, it’s gross.

And I want to use this moment to point out that it’s a myth that the 60s leftist movements were a Boomer phenomenon. Boomers get — or take — the credit, positing that they’re the original youth movement. But, no. They were mostly too young.

1/ Just finished reading Franzen's piece in the @NewYorker 😱There's been lots of reaction from the scientists who criticize the novelist's lack of political vision and the destabilizing nature of his remarks. Here are some of the things he has to say.

But the few big problems for me are:

1. Franzen's odd insistence that 2 degrees is a magic # and everything turns instantly to hell after that. That's nuts. As @AlexSteffen has written, if we miss 2, we fight for 2.1, then 2.2, etc.

seriously, forget wind and solar – white men's unnecessary opinions have got to be our most untapped and INFINITE renewable energy source. we just gotta figure out a way to hook some turbines to them, so then at least we'll get something out of them. 2/
if the New Yorker is gonna be publishing cultural comment on climate change, i can think of at least a dozen writers of color - hello @MaryHeglar EXISTS - who i would rather hear from. and that's no shade to franzen. these folks are just more knowledgeable about the issues. 3/
