Monday Impeachment Facts
1/ Impeachment is part of our constitutional mode of governance. It's in our Constitution--a vital check on executive power.
“Checks & balances” is a phrase so familiar that for some, it has no meaning or power
Under our Constitution, no branch of government can “cancel” another.
Each branch CHECKS the others & BALANCES power.
In speaking of impeachment, we’re talking about an investigation.
Several presidents have been impeached. But no president has been removed from office. (Nixon resigned.)
But past presidents have submitted to it because it’s part of the Constitition they’ve sworn to uphold.
And the Constitution is the pact that binds us together as Americans.
