Just months before the 2013 election, Chapo met with Tony Hernandez, los Valles and others at a ranch in El Espíritu, Copán. There, Tony promised that neither Chande nor los Valles would be extradited if his brother won, and Chapo offered $1 million to @JuanOrlandoH’s campaign.
@JuanOrlandoH At first, Tony Hernandez hesitated at Chapo’s $1 million offer. “Tony Hernandez told him that he would think about it.” But about three days later, Tony called Chande “and he told me that he had spoken to @JuanOrlandoH and informed me they did need that $1 million.”
@JuanOrlandoH Tony Hernadez told Chande by phone that @JuanOrlandoH had warned him about the meeting where he'd collect $1 million from Chapo for his '13 campaign: “Tony Hernandez told me that Juan Orlando Hernandez had said for us to be careful with cameras and pictures because of phones.”
@JuanOrlandoH Why take Chapo's $1 million? And how important was it to @JuanOrlandoH’s campaign? "Tony Hernandez told me that they needed the money urgently because we were about six to seven weeks from the 2013 elections." They met soon after -- this time in Chande’s dining room in Paraíso.
@JuanOrlandoH Melvin Pinto picked up Tony Hernandez, his cousin “Primo” (an M-16 slung across his shoulder) and Mario Calix from La Entrada and brought them to Chande’s house, where Chapo later arrived, Chande recalled. “When Chapo got there, we sat around the table to talk.”
@JuanOrlandoH “Don Amado” (almost certainly Carrillo Fuentes), Chapo, Tony, Otto Salguero, Chande and his brother Hugo sat at the dining room table, while Primo and Melvin Pinto took up security outside “by the pool.”
@JuanOrlandoH Chapo wanted protection for Los Valles, Chande and cocaine going through Honduras. “Tony Hernandez told El Chapo Guzman that if @JuanOrlandoH did win the election that he would provide protection to los Valles, to me, such that we would not be extradited to the United States.”
@JuanOrlandoH With promises made, “El Chapo Guzman told Don Amado to go to the car and bring him the money and we counted the money,” Chande recalled. Adding: “We put it in a bag and Chapo Guzman handed it over to Tony Hernandez.”
@JuanOrlandoH Leaving with Chapo's $1Mill., Tony, Mario Calix, Primo, Melvin Pinto, and Chande road together to La Entrada, with a separate security escort vehicle with 6 additional armed men. “Who won the presidential election in 2013?” the prosecutor asked. “@JuanOrlandoH won,” Chande said.
