Closing arguments happening now.
Solicitor Brackett says he's not proving that Lewis committed adultery. Brackett says Lewis was set on Nabors "from the word go." Says that's not a crime, but that the crime was that Lewis used his office to make that happen.
Brackett says the taxpayers pay money for the sheriff to keep the public safe, not for Lewis to "get in Savanah Nabors' pants."
Brackett explaining this is his opportunity to explain why the evidence is important. Says he will go witness by witness to show exactly what he presented.
Brackett says he asked the witnesses what they made to know what is a reasonable salary for someone in the sheriff's office to make. Says Nabors' $62K salary is important because some deputies with 20 years of experience didn't make that.
Also talking about the new car being a big deal, calls it a point of pride.
Brackett says Lewis didn't care about transparency. Says he'll get to that later. Brings up "Tennessee beauty queen" again. Says Lewis didn't have a resume, just some photos.
Brackett does a Bill Clinton impression saying Lewis is pulling right from his book. Says he did not come clean to the deputies within the office or give them the heads up about the press conference.
Brackett says the integrity of the agency "runs through him." Says it diminishes the whole GCSO.
Brackett saying Lewis knew it didn't look right having Nabors as his assistant. Says that's why he "manufactured" the story about Nabors babysitting and being a close family friend.
Brackett saying the jury will get the receipts that show the trip to Charlotte. He's talking about them again now. Says they spent more than $130 on the initial food and drinks at the hotel. "That was paid by the people of Greenville. We picked up the bar tab."
Brackett says there's an enormous and tremendous amount of power wrapped up in being sheriff.
Brackett says he's going to "pull the mask back." He says this testimony: "Yesterday I could have f***** her in my Tahoe, but today I don't know where that b****** head is at." shows who Lewis really is. "You probably all know someone like that."
Brackett saying Lewis put all the decisions on the new positions, new car, etc on other people. Says they could have met in Greenville. Says they could just go in a room and turn the phones off.
Brackett sys the jury has seen Lewis' arrogance for themselves from his testimony yesterday and today. He's still going through the trip to Charlotte.
Now Brackett going through the texts between Nabors and Ty Miller so Nabors can confide in her. Reminding the jury that Miller called Lewis before she met with Nabors.
Brackett hammering home his point that "integrity is everything" for law enforcement. "When you have guys like this who come in and trash the reputation of law enforcement..." Brackett gets heated in his closings saying conduct like Lewis' ruins it for everyone.
Brackett says some things are more important than money. "Dignity and respect is one of them."
Brackett now playing a recording of Lewis talking about his marital problems. He mentions maybe needing "a 6-foot tall blonde." Brackett says there are competing stories as far as what happened in Charlotte. He asks the jury to remember Nabors on the stand.
"Did that sound like someone who was in pain?" He asks the jury to analyze her credibility. "If she was faking she needs to be in Hollywood."
Asks the jury to think about Lewis' testimony too. "Whose testimony had the ring of truth?" Says he'll go back through Lewis' testimony because it was not truthful. Says he admitted to pursuing an adulterous relationship by trying to plan the trip to Reno.
Says Lewis kept equivocating saying Lewis kept saying "that's what it sounds like." Says Lewis can't help himself and just cannot stop. Says there are things the jury doesn't need to worry about because Lewis has admitted to it.
Brackett talking about when Lewis fired a deputy for sending inappropriate photos to a female deputy. Says it speaks more about him that he said that was a tough decision.
Says when the blog came out Lewis still did not take responsibility. Says Lewis only admitted to it when Nabors filed the lawsuit and attached the recordings. Brackett says "there's no honor in that." Calls it "laughable" that Lewis stood up and tried to say he was a good guy.
Brackett now talking about the text Lewis sent on the second night in Charlotte. The text Lewis claims Nabors could have sent it from her iPad connected to his phone.
Brackett breaking down "misconduct in office" for the jury. Says it is using public resources for personal gain. Says it doesn't have to be money.
Brackett now explaining how the two charges are different from each other. Says the intimidation from Lewis to the other deputies not to talk to Nabors falls under this. Says you can't use your power to make people do things they don't want to do.
Brackett playing more recordings. Lewis can be heard saying "I just want to drink on company time." Bracket says this is "the mask pulled off Will Lewis" says it shows "exactly who he is."
Brackett says Lewis didn't feel bad about Charlotte, says the only thing he felt bad about was that he got caught. "What kind of man would take advantage of the public in the way that he did?"
Brackett playing another recording where Nabors can be heard saying that their relationship is inappropriate. Lewis says on the recording "I don't give a f*** what anybody else thinks." Brackett says Lewis has had his fun and now it's his time to pay.
"Is this the man who you want deciding who gets arrested and thrown in a cage?" Asks Brackett to the jury. "Can there be any doubt at all? That Will Lewis is guilty of both counts on misconduct in office?"
Brackett holds up a badge. Says Lewis disgraced it. Calls it something sacred. Says most police officers truly value and respect their badge. "Nobody hates a dirty cop more than a good one."
"There has to be a reckoning" says Brackett to the jury. Says the people of Greenville County deserve better. Says it's a beautiful thing that they get to hold Lewis accountable and "put some of the shine back on his badge." That's the end of the prosecution closing.
