Law school 101: Hearsay is an out of court statement, offered to prove the truth of what was said. Although the general rule is that hearsay is inadmissible, there are a lot of exceptions to the rule. rulesofevidence.org/article-viii/r…
In addition to business records made in the ordinary course of business (transcripts of calls) falling w/in an exception to the rule, statements of a party/opponent in a legal proceeding & his/her agent are not considered hearsay. rulesofevidence.org/article-viii/r…
It is not clear that the rules of evidence would apply to impeachment proceedings. It’s up to the rules the Senate uses as the Constitution doesn’t specify. But hearsay may not be the cure all some GOP reps seem to think it is.
