I started playing Stranded Deep, which my brain insists on calling "Depth Stranding".

Prettiest gritty survival game I've played. Possibly grittier and prettier than Subnautica, which is as much as adventure game as pure survival, so there's more of a path forward.
Stranded Deep puts you down in an archipelago of relatively tiny items. Food and water are pretty manageable once you figure out how to handle coconuts (harvest every one because new ones won't grow until old ones are picked, don't eat them too quickly or you get sick)...
...but basically everything else is finite, and once you start to run out of wood, you have to invade your food supply by cutting palm trees, or make it to another island.

Rocks are worse.
And also, I stepped on a spiny sea star my first day on the island, and it took me three days to make an antidote for the poison, at which point I was half dead.

There's not enough herbs on my island for a second dose.
I'm about out of rocks and I can't get more without a pick, which I need leather to make. No animal larger than a crab on my island. Rocks are needed to make tools, which you can't do things like husk coconuts without, so I am going to have to take to my mostly useless raft.
I can't disassemble my camp and take it with me, so I will have to find my way back to my island or start over on the next one, with only the most useful scavenged items with me.
Kind of expect to die at sea, paddling around in circles.
