Gotta say @GCPcloud, Data Fusion is a nightmare compared to @Trifacta Dataprep. It takes 25 minutes just to spin up the pipeline editor which itself costs $1100/mo just to run. Dataprep charges just for the Dataflow resources. The UX and debuggability of Data Fusion is a disaster
@GCPcloud @Trifacta It's strange, Data Fusion feels so odd-man-out compared to GCP's normally good "serverless" story, e.g. services like BigQuery and Dataflow. The CDAP infrastructure it runs is a monster, and it relies on Dataproc which itself has issues. Good for billing though, I guess.
It's funny because Data Fusion is supposed to let non-technical people build out ETL pipelines, but debugging it takes you straight into Hadoop-land. What's a Hadoop? To be fair, Dataprep uses Dataflow, so when a job shits out you're in an equally precarious spot.
The difference being Dataprep has a significantly more refined UX and makes it much more difficult to screw up your pipeline so debugging is more rare. Data Fusion's UX (I guess, technically, CDAP's?) is just a complete and utter tire fire.

Let's talk about code reviews (again). I usually encounter two camps when it comes to code reviews: those who think they are necessary and good and those who think they are an unneeded process that slows people down (or a less efficient alternative to pair programming). 1/
I've seen lots of discussion recently about "you need to do X" to build software effectively. Personally, I don't care if you do agile, XP, kanban, TDD, etc. At a certain point, I don't think the tactics matter all that much so long as what you do works for you. 2/
One exception to that is code reviews. I've found that this is a more controversial opinion than I realized. I honestly believe code reviews, when taken seriously, are important to any team for a few reasons. This is a hill I'm willing to die on. 3/

Building a website is not a digital transformation. If that's what you think this is about then you've already lost. A digital transformation implies there is an end. Once you get there, you're done. That's not how this works. 3/

After spending a few days using Prometheus, I'm a little stumped as to why it's so popular. I think my expectations were out of whack with the amount of buzz surrounding it.
I get that there isn't much else in terms of OSS monitoring solutions (*shivers at the days of using Graphite and Grafana*)...
But I would much rather throw piles of cash at Datadog or some other vendor than run my own monitoring infrastructure and use Prometheus based on my experience. For some reason people look at you weird when you say things like that though.

That’s not how any of this works! Jokes aside, @AugurProject is probably the only, with exception of @ethereum, @lightning, and bitcoin itself project in the space where the developers don’t actually operate or host it. It’s all community driven
So Augur’s not comparable to a startup, it’s a protocol. To interface *with* that protocol you need an ethereum node. Gethnode was a free ethereum node ran by someone in the community. Besides that, you have infura which appears to require api keys now
If you want to diy you can run a full node (which itself takes forever to sync) or a light node (which is extremely slow when fetching old data from ethereum, so much so it essentially doesn’t work for historical data, but does for new incoming data)
