NDP Leader @AndreaHorwath to Ford: When the world is moving towards renewable energy the Ford govt is wasting at least $231 million tearing down clean energy projects. Why did the govt claim there was no cost when in fact ripping up these contracts costs at least $231 million?
@AndreaHorwath Horwath: Govt sources say that costs of scrapping renewable energy projects could exceed $231 million. I can remember when Liberals sat where the Ford govt sits now and lowballed the costs of the gas plant scandal.
Can the govt guarantee that this number will not climb higher?
@AndreaHorwath Horwath: It’s been more than a year since Ford proudly announced that he would start tearing down clean energy projects while the rest of the world was building them. The Ford govt still claims they don’t know the full cost. When will the public get an answer? #onpoli
@AndreaHorwath Horwath: When the previous Liberal govt cancelled two gas plants, they had the same 230 million dollar opening estimate as the Ford govt. But we learned 230 million was actually a BILLION.
Will the Ford govt ask the Auditor to conduct a review of the cost of cancelled contracts?
@AndreaHorwath Horwath: At a time when we should be investing in renewable energy projects this govt is not only tearing them down they’re losing 100s of millions of taxpayer dollars that could have built new hospitals, & long-term care beds or taken lead out of the water in schools & daycares.
@AndreaHorwath Horwath: The Conservatives used to be upset about the gas plant contracts ripped up by the Liberals, but now the tables have turned, and they're doing the same thing.
Will the Ford Conservatives allow the Auditor to tell us how much we’ll all be paying? #onpoli
@AndreaHorwath NDP critic for Education @maritstiles to Ford govt: In the last 24 hours teachers have expressed frustration at the Ford govt who seem determined to pick a fight and plunge bargaining into chaos. Why is the Ford government so determined to pick a fight? #onpoli#onted
@AndreaHorwath@maritstiles Stiles: It’s no surprise this govt's going out of their way to make things worse at the bargaining table – they’re the ones who made things worse in our schools to begin with.
When are you going to do the right thing: reverse your reckless cuts, & stop the attack on our schools?
@AndreaHorwath@maritstiles NDP Finance critic @shaw_sandy: Earlier this year Ford passed legislation to tear up 10-year contracts with The Beer Store. Industry sources estimate this reckless move could cost up to $1-billion. Can the govt update us on the plan to rip up the contract & how much it will cost?
@AndreaHorwath@maritstiles@shaw_sandy Shaw: Cancellation costs could run into the hundreds of millions. Will the Minister tell families how much public money will be spent on ripping up The Beer Store contract?
And why he is diverting that money from our crowded hospitals and underfunded schools? #onpoli
@AndreaHorwath@maritstiles@shaw_sandy@MTaylorNDP NDP MPP @beyrima: Cuts to child welfare services under the Liberals were bad, and have gotten even worse under Ford. $28.5 million in cuts has resulted in service loss, hurting the kids in care. Will Ford govt reverse the cuts?

Premier Doug Ford and Health Minister Christine Elliott lied when they said their decision to cancel many public health protections was based on expert advice.

October 6 — 548 new COVID-19 cases reported in Ontario.
Today, the courts ruled against Doug Ford’s cut to OHIP coverage for Ontarians when they’re travelling.
This makes SEVEN court battles lost by Doug Ford and his PC govt, wasting precious public dollars defending his cutting agenda. #onpoli
There’s a lot to unpack here, first of all, the ‘free market’ would not have the business opportunity to operate COVID-19 tests at a high price if the gov’t was on top of testing – but they’re leaving people behind.
Everyday Ontarians are waiting hours in line to get their COVID-19 test. While the gov’t has been saying for months that “they’re hammering away at testing” but experts disagree: ontariondp.ca/news/fact-chec…
If testing was as easy and accessible as it should be with a public health system, there would not be a market for $400 testing kits for those that can afford it. Demand the gov’t invest in testing now: ontariondp.ca/demand-covid-1…
