NY: Passes commonsense bail reform, in line with other states where jail populations have reduced & public safety increased. Misdemeanors & non-violent felonies. Fairness, fiscal responsibility, public safety.

NY: Passes bail reform that’ll ensure no one charged w/ most misdemeanors & non-violent felonies are jailed solely bc they can’t afford to buy their freedom.

Data: Reduces crime. Makes communities safer.

Oneida Sherrifs Office: “He’s gonna walk out & come to your residence!”
NJ/PA: Bail reforms have reduced crime & vast majority of people come to court without bail.

NY: Great ideas.

Last year: Victims & survivor groups spoke out in strong support of bail reform & discovery changes in NY. Jail doesn’t heal trauma. Doesn’t increase safety.

NY: Finally brings brutal evidence laws in line w/ *rest of country.* Prosecutors no longer can withhold until day of trial. So bad, TX prosecutors had to fly in to tell NY prosecutors to stand down.

In Brooklyn, large majority of those who’ll be eligible for bail reform *already released.* Discovery practice already in close alignment w/ new changes. Crime down. Life continues.

Onondaga DA William Fitzpatrick: “We are not resistant to reform, we are resistant to insanity.”
Under NY bail reforms, many people jailed solely bc of their poverty, on misdemeanors & non-violent felonies, will be released in time for the holidays.

Livingston, NY Sheriff Thomas Dougherty calls this basic justice: “The Christmas Purge.”
Data: Every day in pre-trial detention is violent & statistically increases likelihood of rearrest. One of critical outcomes of NY bail reform is enhanced public safety.
