Saw Knives Out. Some thoughts:

1. Lateef Stanfield, who starred in the vehemently anti-cop Sorry To Bother You, plays a Black cop

2. Nobody told me how much Knives Out is in conversation w Clue, a murder comedy whodunnit that also unspools over a shout amount of time
3. While Daniel Craig’s Kevin Spacey-like ham is most like Wadsworth from the Clue cast, the donut monologue is the equivalent of the flames on the side Madeline Khan’s face
4. I like how it explored the various forms of whiteness & how the white liberals and the conservatives are all racist and ready to turn on the Latina women they “let into our house.” BUT I really want to read a Latinx critic on if this was funny? Or was it cheap & insensitive?
5. The Black cops in both Clue & Knives Out do nothing useful. But in Knives Out I’m curious how a Black law man is deployed to keep order for the white generational wealth (he fails) & the Latinx family is positioned as invaders interrupting white wealth transfers.
6. I found myself thinking of how annoyed I was during Pryor’s obnoxious monologue to Belieze in Angels in America and wondering whether this was a similar or better expression of hearing white people talk over “the help”
