Analysis with @SarahJamieLewis and Olivier Pereira of the SwissPost-Scytl e-voting system. people.eng.unimelb.edu.au/vjteague/Swiss… The code uses a trapdoor commitment scheme, so it is possible for an authority to provide a proof of a correct election outcome while actually manipulating votes.
This is exactly what verifiability is meant to prevent. They say they have now fixed it, but without an open public process for examining the code, we can't be sure whether other similar issues remain, or whether other Internet voting systems such as NSW iVote are also affected.
Nothing in our analysis suggests this problem was introduced deliberately. It is entirely consistent with a naive implementation of a complex cryptographic protocol by well-intentioned people who lacked a full understanding of its security assumptions & other important details.

There have recently been a number of discussions about the harassment of women on social media. But despite the public nature of those discussions and the awareness and support that exists, the reality remains that harassment has become a constant for many women. [THREAD]
That needs to stop. Twitter and other sites continue to fail us - it takes a lot for an account to be suspended. There was one account once that happily tweeted about all sorts of sexual activity and rape in relation to me, but was only suspended when they made racist comments 2/
about an MP. Those were vile and entirely unacceptable, but the account should have been suspended way before then. Likewise, I remember the Ukip account that plastered my face all over Twitter for months - never even got a warning for that and it was only closed much later. 3/

i understand why people are excited about LeBron's school not being a charter. There are some ways in which that distinction matters, and some ways in which it does not, given that the school is receiving millions of dollars & resources from private funders other than LeBron.
LeBron's foundation is giving millions of dollars, and there's a multiyear grant commitment from a local private foundation, plus other resources (e.g. JP Morgan Chase is providing tutors and companies have donated school supplies and transportation services).
The fact that the school is not a charter means that (presumably) teachers will be union, and they won't be able to come up with "innovative" new ways to suspend and expel or cherry pick kids. I know that the principal is a veteran educator. That stuff definitely matters.

1. Why did @POTUS add Rudy Guiliani to his team? I don’t subscribe to the conventional wisdom (speculation?) about the reason. Let me explain.
2. The conventional wisdom in the legacy media is that @POTUS tapped Guiliani because of his long relationship with Mueller in hopes that a deal can be concluded to wrap up the special counsel investigation. nytimes.com/2018/04/20/nyr…
3. This would make some sense on the surface in that it is said that Guiliani and Mueller know each other fairly well from past relationships in the Justice Department.
