Our report helps uncover how that fear has manifested on the ground, including among groups not technically targeted by the rule: lawful permanent residents, U.S. citizens, and exempted humanitarian groups like crime and trafficking survivors.
Service providers have had to convince their clients to keep their health coverage to pay for crucial care and treatment, like an infant’s hospitalization, a patient’s diabetes medication, and cancer treatment.
People are declining nutrition benefits that their families need to thrive. In one example, a trafficking survivor and single mother decided not to apply for SNAP (food stamps) benefits despite being eligible.
In another example, a working mom with two jobs decided to cancel SNAP for her U.S. citizen children, instead taking on a third job just to keep food on the table.
Keep in mind - these are services that everyone, no matter where you come from or what you look like, should be able to access without fear.
