BREAKING: The 5th Circuit has ruled on #DACA, largely upholding a lower court ruling finding the policy unlawful.

It allows renewals to continue temporarily & has sent the case back to the lower court to consider @POTUS's new DACA regulation, which goes into effect on 10/31. To be clear: This decision doesn't change who can currently apply for or renew DACA for now.

And at the same time, immigrant youth CANNOT continue to live under unceasing politicized attacks on DACA, and thus, their lives.

This painful uncertainty must end. #HomeisHere

🚨BREAKING: @JoaquinCastroTX, @RepTedLieu, @SenWarren & @SenAlexPadilla introduced the Citizenship for Essential Workers Act, which would provide 5 mil.+ undocu workers a path to citizenship.

#ImmigrantsAreEssential & millions risk their lives to keep our country running. 1/ #ImmigrantsAreEssential, not just to our economy, but to our communities & our nation.

While many of us are able to stay home, millions of immigrants in our communities are working high-risk jobs to care for our loved ones, teach our kids, keep us fed & deliver our goods. 2/

🚨BREAKING: Today, the Biden administration agreed to end all SCOTUS appeals of the previous administration’s #PublicCharge ‘wealth test’, which targeted low-income immigrants and their families. This paves the way for ending this dangerous & racist rule.

🧵A thread 1/ Trump’s public charge ‘wealth test’ was cruel & dangerous to the health and well-being of our nation. It threatened the health, nutrition, and housing of millions of families and has impeded our ability to fully recover from the pandemic. 2/

🚨BREAKING: The Senate passed the $1.9 trillion #AmericanRescuePlan, providing necessary relief to our communities—including 2.2 mil. more people in mixed-status families. Though we celebrate this victory, the bill once again unfairly excludes 9.3 mil. immigrants from relief. 1/ Rejecting @SenTedCruz’s effort to block stimulus checks for undocu immigrants is a big win for immigrant communities. 2.2 million additional families will now be included in relief.

This is the result of advocates who organized to ensure inclusion of ALL of our communities. 2/

🚨BREAKING: @RepRoybalAllard, @NydiaVelazquez & @RepYvetteClarke reintroduced the Dream & Promise Act today, which would permanently protect 3.1 mil. immigrants.

NILC has fought for #DreamAct since 2001 & won’t stop until ALL immigrants in the U.S. have the freedom to thrive. 1/ Image #DACA recipients, TPS holders & immigrants covered by DED belong here: they're living, working & building their futures here.

In fact, more than 200,000 DACA recipients are essential workers, keeping this country afloat & helping in our COVID recovery. #ImmigrantsAreEssential 2/

NILC forcefully denounces the ongoing hate crimes & bigotry targeting Asian Americans, and the recent rise in attacks on AAPI elders.

We stand in solidarity with AAPI communities in their pursuit of equity & justice. 1/4

ow.ly/zGWB50DxgI4 Since the start of COVID, Asian Americans have increasingly become targets of racially-motivated attacks & racist rhetoric. All the while, they're disproportionately impacted by the pandemic, grappling with unemployment, high-risk health care work & economic instability. 2/4

🚨BREAKING: @POTUS has begun the process of undoing the #PublicCharge immigrant ‘wealth test.’ This commitment to reverse one of the most harmful policies of the Trump administration is a colossal step toward ensuring we all have the freedom to thrive. 1/4 The public charge ‘wealth test’ stoked fear & confusion in our communities, causing many immigrants to choose between feeding their loved ones and accessing essential health care during a global pandemic. 🚨BREAKING: A federal court has largely allowed our case with @splcenter challenging a 2018 workplace raid to proceed. The raid took place at an East Tennessee meat processing plant where federal agents illegally targeted Latinx workers.👇1/6

ow.ly/BAp050DppDw In April 2018, dozens of DHS & IRS agents descended on the Tennessee meat processing plant, detaining approx. 100 Latinx workers. This created chaos & deep pain in the lives of these families, forever changing the community. @tnimmigrant has worked to support & empower them. 2/6

🎉 VICTORY! A Brooklyn court ruled in our case with @MaketheRoadNY and @WIRACYls on DACA that Chad Wolf was not lawfully serving, and his memo was not lawfully issued. We are still reading the opinion and will provide more details soon. @MaketheRoadNY @WiracYls We knew the memo issued by Chad Wolf was another cruel and divisive move that sought to upend the lives of over a million immigrant youth while Trump schemes to dismantle #DACA. This decision confirms that the Wolf Memorandum was not lawfully issued in the first place. 2/

THREAD 👇 1/ cbsnews.com/news/young-imm… @MaketheRoadNY @WiracYls .@DHSgov’s memo drastically altered #DACA by rejecting all first-time applications, limiting the availability of advanced parole, and shortening the length of DACA renewal grants from two years to one year (essentially DOUBLING the cost of renewals). 2/

We are deeply disturbed by weekend reports of 60+ Iranian-Americans, including US citizens, being detained for hours at a time at US port of entry by CBP. Negah Hekmati, a US citizen traveling with her husband & two young children, were held & questioned for 5 hours. 1/ If this type of profiling sounds familiar, it’s because the aftermath of profiling & targeting Muslim and Middle Eastern communities that ramped up in 2001 are still being felt today. @DHSgov can’t infringe on people’s basic rights or profile people based on their nationality. 2/
