Is a HCQ+MET combo possibly dangerous? In mice 🐭, hydroxychloroquine (60 mg/kg) given as a gut-cavity injection with metformin (250 mg/kg), a common type 2 diabetes drug, killed 30-40% in 5 weeks. Not known if this translates to humans, but is cautionary.
Mice on HCQ+MET had increased autophagy, the cell's protein recycling system. Maybe proteins were being excessively damaged or recycled too quickly. Either way, it is a flag. @JohnsHopkins pre-print & story @GingerVieira: tinyurl.com/vcpjy6x tinyurl.com/u22lhpt
Actually in 4 weeks, not 5.
