Right now, a short drive from the Milwaukee Regional Medical Center where coronavirus patients are being treated by health workers desperately short of PPE, a GOP-supported protest against our stay-home order is underway. A GOP State Rep candidate attended. 1/
When people gather to violate social distancing guidelines—for any purpose, including protesting social distancing guidelines—they risk spreading COVID-19. Many people in Brookfield work in the nearby hospitals.
Here's the video Bonnie Lee, Republican State Rep candidate, posted as she slowly drove by the crowd of protestors. "You should come check this out! Thousands of people! It kind of feels like 4th of July on steroids. There's so much enthusiasm out here!"
"People are not so happy about the Governor's extension of the #SaferAtHome order." Bonnie Lee reads the signs approvingly: "Freedom is essential!" "Open up Wisconsin!"

Bonnie Lee is running for State Assembly in the district once represented by Scott Walker. In 2018, @RobynVining ran hard and flipped the seat blue—the only Dem Assembly pickup since 2010. Her win margin: 132 votes. She's the GOP's #1 target. Help her now:

I saw this protest—thousands of people, many clustered in groups, few wearing masks—and immediately called @RobynVining. Robyn spent this week on the phone with nurses and health workers desperately trying to save the lives of patients amidst Milwaukee's #COVID outbreak.
The disregard for human life inherent in this kind of protest is blatant. And it's not a fringe group. The Waukesha County GOP is there. GOP candidates are there. We don't know how many protestors have asymptomatic COVID. We'll learn more in a few weeks—tragically.
Brookfield Alderman-elect Mike Hallquist is there (congrats, Mike) and posted this short and totally on-target thread.

This is now the @wisgop's whole strategy. They're fighting in court to torpedo the #SaferAtHome order. They're planning a huge protest at the WI Capitol. In the war of humanity vs coronavirus, the GOP has picked coronavirus.

Before the April 7 election in WI that the GOP forced to take place in person, I wrote that it might be the largest in-person gathering in the country this month. But now the WI GOP has 3k RSVPs & 12k interested in an anti-#SaferAtHome protest on 4/24.

When GOP Assembly Speaker Robin Vos led the lame-duck power grab against Gov-elect Evers in December 2018, Vos insisted that it was the legislature's reassertion as a co-equal branch of government. He's now aiming for supermajorities. It's lethally clear that he is unfit to lead.
If Robyn Vos's candidate can defeat Robyn Vining, he's 1/3 of the way to having a supermajority in the state Assembly. But Robyn Vining is a fighter. She's not going to let that happen. And we're going to stand with her.

If you don't think the people egging on anti-safety protests should have veto-overriding power in Wisconsin, give to @RobynVining now, and spread the word.

Sometimes, parents are driving their kids on a highway. And the kids are sick of being in the car. They keep asking—"Are we there yet?!"

The parents are sick of the car, too. But: no getting out until we actually arrive.

The GOP is now flinging the door open & diving out.
