#Breaking Global News has learned that suspect Gabriel Wortman has been shot dead by police. Police sources tell Global News an RCMP officer was killed by Wortman and another was shot and injured and is now in hospital.
Multiple sources say the Nova Scotia RCMP Emergency Response Team killed Wortman at a gas station. There was no exchange of fire.
Global News has confirmed the identity of the officer killed but is not disclosing the name at this time as we want to make sure next of kin notification is complete first.

Global News has learned the RCMP have no national policy for when to issue emergency alerts, including for active shooters.

@globalnews discovered this after investigating what standard procedures RCMP had in place for comms with the public during an active shooter scenario.
The RCMP has no national guidance for Mounties on when or how to use emergency alerts. Why is there no national communications policy for how to communicate with the public, including emergency alerts, during an active shooter scenario? #NovaScotiaShootings
We also have not been able to get a clear answer from the RCMP on whether there were provincial or local operational guidelines on communications with the public during an active shooter situation, or on use of an emergency alert.

I know our whole family is broken hearted by what has happened in N.S. My grandfather was a MacAulay from Glace Bay and ministered for many years at Brunswick Street United Church. My mom and aunts spent a lot of their childhood in N.S. and some of my favourite memories are there
Another family connection: My aunt Phyllis Thordarson (then MacAualy), Heather’s mom, was a student minister not far from where this tragedy unfolded and remembers driving down the beautiful backroads. So unimaginably unfair and sad this has happened.

Today on @TheWestBlock Minister @melaniejoly joins on an independent inquiry into the RCMP response on Nova Scotia, stopping illegal guns coming across the border, and whether they are looking changing the criminal code to specifically deal with intimate partner violence #cdnpoli
We'll also ask when we can expect to see federal guidelines about reopening the economy, and whether there's money coming for tourism. Plus will Canadians be allowed to vacation in national parks this summer with some provinces planning to reopen provincial parks?
We'll also sit down with Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe @PremierScottMoe to take a look at that province's plan to reopen the economy which kicks in on May 4th. How will the phased approach work and is he concerned about too much too fast?
