Out of the 165,000 #covid19-related deaths, over 100,000 took place in #Europe, despite the most sophisticated & widely available health systems and highest levels of public spending.
What the #EU doesn't have? Strong common institutions that can act as one coherently. #toFedEU
Beyond the issue of #Coronabonds and unemployment reinsurance, the #covid19 crisis highlights the fact that Europe is not able to act as one, even when it is most needed. When a crisis hits, we revert to uncoordinated national plans and competition. The result is more casualties.
A chain is only as strong as its weakest link. For a sensible response, common measures throughout #Europe were necessary. This means at least a European health minister, a robust health agency, and the power to take binding measures. #toFedEU

First of all, what are we talking about? This is about a special stream of European public funding set aside for #europeanparties and distributed every year. Out of that envelope, 10% is distributed equally to all parties and 90% proportionally to their number of MEPs. 2/23

@EDC_eudemocracy paved for the way for information on #europeanparties to be available from the @Europarl_EN to citizens without delay!
Before, information took up to 8 years to be available in full.

Over the past several years, @EDC_eudemocracy has made many, many requests to the European Parliament to access decisions by its Bureau on the funding of #europeanparties. These included decisions for funding (for the coming year) and final accounts (which wrap up the process).
Invariably, these documents were provided with heavy redactions over the parts covering the EP's reasoning for its decisions: we could see the outcome (amounts), but not how decisions were made. Until yesterday, the latest full document related to funding for 2015 -- 8 years ago.
