Many times on #college #campuses, we tend to hear that prior to the #establishment of the State of Israel, Arabs and Jews lived "#peacefully" side by side, and the State of Israel was the reason the the hostility against the Jews. This argument is wrong, it is false.
The Jaffa riots were a series of violent riots in Mandatory Palestine on May 1–7, 1921, an attack by Arabs on Jews during which many were killed. The rioting began in Jaffa and spread to other parts of the country #Rehovot, #PetahTikva, #Hadera and elsewhere.
A #testimony from 1921 said:
"Dozens of British, Arab, and Jewish witnesses all reported that Arab men bearing clubs, knives, swords, and some pistols broke into Jewish buildings and murdered their inhabitants, while women followed to loot.

They attacked Jewish pedestrians and destroyed Jewish homes and stores. They beat and killed Jews in their homes, including children, and in some cases split open the victims' skulls." The #British High Commissioner Sir Herbert Samuel established an investigative commission:
"The fundamental cause of the Jaffa riots and the subsequent acts of violence was a feeling among the Arabs of discontent with, and hostility to, the Jews, due to political and economic causes, and connected with Jewish immigration, and with their conception of #Zionist policy"
The riots that took place 6 days were the largest attack on Jewish communities in the Land until than. The Jewish community and defenders were surprised by the Arab attackers. On May 14th the British announced that the amount of Jewish #immigrants to the land will be limited.
