#InternationalWorkersDay is especially meaningful this year. While we honour the historic work of the labour movement to bring us workers safety and rights, COVID-19 has shone a light on the gaps we still need to fight for.
Today and every day we will continue fighting for the safety and rights of all workers. We will be highlighting worker stories and ways to support throughout the day. #InternationalWorkersDay
Working in a grocery store, Emma has effectively become a front-line worker earning less than she would on CERB. "Since this crisis began, the unprecedented stress and anxiety about being so exposed to the public has taken a huge toll on my already-precarious mental health".
Too many people are falling through the cracks, from low-wage workers to students. We need to expand crisis support to make sure no one is left behind: ontariondp.ca/expand-crisis-…
Erin has been a home care nurse for 8 years, “We aren’t heroes nor do we want to be called it. But we do expect recognition for the vital work we provide to our communities all over Ontario."
Tyrel is a nursing student, who at the start of the crisis was just in the midst of returning to his home in 650 Parliament which suffered a fire. People just getting their start deserve some sense of stability in these uncertain times.
Many who have lost income due to COVID-19 would benefit from the relief rent subsidies would provide. Add your voice to the call for rent subsidies here: ontariondp.ca/rent-subsidies
We would like to introduce you to Diana, who works in homelessness service: “I’ve had to take a second job working frontline at a drop-in in order to get by.”
“I am using vacation days at my full-time job to do this, and it’s difficult to juggle two stressful jobs just trying to keep people experiencing homelessness safe, connected, and well.” continues Diana.
“If I get sick working frontline, my full-time work – where I am the only full-time staff person among three staff – will lose a major part of its team. I feel like I’ve been put into an impossible situation.”
Our front line workers, and our homeless deserve better. You can help people like Diana by adding your name here: ontariondp.ca/protect-the-ho…

A timeline of Merrilee Fullerton, Doug Ford’s Minister of Long-Term Care, downplaying how many seniors are getting sick and dying in long-term care, playing a callous numbers game to avoid having to spend money to hire staff and implement infection control measures. 1/6

Premier Doug Ford and Health Minister Christine Elliott lied when they said their decision to cancel many public health protections was based on expert advice.
A TIMELINE OF LIES brought to you by Doug Ford's Conservative government:
Doug Ford, Nov. 3: “This framework was developed in consultation with the Chief Medical Officer of Health, the Public Health Measures Table, local medical officers of health, and other health system experts.” #FordLied#Covid19#Covid19Ontario
FACT CHECK TIMELINE: As Ontario reaches yet another record high number of new #COVID19 cases, Doug Ford needs to explain why he and his govt have been minimizing the impact of COVID’s second wave on Ontario families, and cutting back on public health measures...

October 6 — 548 new COVID-19 cases reported in Ontario.
Today, the courts ruled against Doug Ford’s cut to OHIP coverage for Ontarians when they’re travelling.
This makes SEVEN court battles lost by Doug Ford and his PC govt, wasting precious public dollars defending his cutting agenda. #onpoli
There’s a lot to unpack here, first of all, the ‘free market’ would not have the business opportunity to operate COVID-19 tests at a high price if the gov’t was on top of testing – but they’re leaving people behind.
Everyday Ontarians are waiting hours in line to get their COVID-19 test. While the gov’t has been saying for months that “they’re hammering away at testing” but experts disagree: ontariondp.ca/news/fact-chec…
If testing was as easy and accessible as it should be with a public health system, there would not be a market for $400 testing kits for those that can afford it. Demand the gov’t invest in testing now: ontariondp.ca/demand-covid-1…
