These are rough times for #Iran’s regime.
-Restive society due to rising coronavirus deaths, cases
-Economy crumbling
-Losing influence in Iraq, Syria
-Hezbollah further sanctioned, militias in Syria pounded by airstrikes
Let me explain.

Once the new Iraqi PM was sworn in, the US extended the window to 120 days. This could be an indication that the US is gaining influence in Iraq & pushing Iran out of Baghdad.

Yes, the sanctions waiver may seem an incentive to Iran. But wait, there’s more.
The new Iraqi PM has ordered the release of political prisoners. Realizing the opportunity, Iraqi protesters took to the streets & torched sites of Iran-backed militias.
Keep in mind that Iran-backed militia groups have also received a pounding from airstrikes not too long ago.

Desperate to save face, Iran reported a possible prisoner swap with the U.S., encouraging MSM to report “lesser tensions.”
However, while Iran is ready for the prisoner exchange without preconditions, Washington has yet to respond.

For those interested, this thread sheds light on the prisoner exchange issue. Senior Iranian officials & Tehran’s lobby in the U.S. are quite concerned about the individual.
Could this have raised a few eyebrows in DC? Maybe.
Reminder:
Khamenei gave in to talks with the Obama admin that led to the 2015 nuclear deal.
However, we all know that Trump is no Obama.
