[Thread on #Facebook] 11 There is a FB page called "breaking Qatar". It attempts to resemble an official Qatari news account, but mostly posts news from a rather amateur Egyptian news site called alwast . It posted the recent fake clip of the coup in Qatar
2/ it also posts random news about special offers in Carrefour and whatnot. I don't know if it's meant to appeal to Egyptians in Qatar, but the fact it posted that doctored video and seems to promote one news site is a red flag. It's run by ten people in Egypt and 1 in Colombia
3/ Could be a clickbait operation, the alWast's FB page also says its administered by 3 people in Egypt. Still, has around 8801 followers. I always wonder who chooses to follow news groups like this...

[Thread] 1/This is very interesting. I checked a sample of 31000 Twitter accounts that were engaged in the disinformation campaign claiming a coup attempt in Qatar on 4th May. Between today and 4th May, 1,100 of those accounts have either been deleted, suspended, or changed their
2/ name. That's around 3% of the total. Of these 1,100 preliminary analysis shows about 50% have been suspended. The rest have either been deleted, but many have engaged in handle switching, which is presumably done to avoid tracking and detection. I don't know baseline figures
3/ for changing handles & deleting accounts on Twitter, but I am certain this is way higher than would be considered normal. It'll be interesting to see if any of these accounts would be released by @Twitter as 'state-backed' info ops, as they were engaging in political messaging

[Thread]1/ This thread is about @Keir_Starmer and #Islamophobia. Yesterday three Tory MPs were censured for sharing a doctored video about @Keir_Starmer . The video, shared by now deleted account @NJamesWorld, attempted to discredit Starmer's handling of the grooming gang crisis
2/ I was interested to see if these disinformation tweets shared by Tory MPs including the Health Minister @NadineDorries impacted upon the abuse @Keir_starmer would receive online. I downloaded around 29,491 interactions received by Starmer's account between 11th May & 15th May
3/ I then grouped those tweets according to those that mentioned a cluster of keywords usually used by the right in narrating the grooming crisis, namely, paedophilia, saville (a symbol of paedophilia). It would be useful to see if the shared video prompted a spike in mentions

1/ Thanks @tdotmcelwee for making me aware of this. What's interesting about the case against the Saudis involved in espionage in Twitter is that in the new filing it explicitly mentions that Zabarah accessed private Twitter data FROM a wireless network in the office of a guy
whose company was doing sketchy shit with social media. Previously it had read like AlZabarah was doing checks on the fly in Twitter head office. However he did much of this via VPN in Saudi. Before it seemed like maybe he wasn't documenting it or backing up the data, I am now
convinced that the historic data of thousands of vulnerable Twitter users is in the hands of this Saudi company and the intelligence services, to consult as they please. Now that is disturbing. #espionage
