2/ #BreonnaTaylor is a Black woman and EMT who was murdered by the police, like #AhmaudArbery, but not while out and about, WHILST SLEEPING IN HER OWN BED. @BlackWomenOWN @BlackPsychiatry @apablackcaucus @ADocNamedDani
3/ I haven't seen any tweets from white friends, or #sleepinglikebreonna, when not all of us run, but all of us surely go to sleep. Some of us worry about getting shot every day, by doing seemingly normal activities, like walking our dogs, or even existing
4/ While this story isn't about a family member shot in their own home, its about the terror that disrupts Black people doing normal things. I'm explaining bc many white friends ask why I isolate. I isolate, to stay alive.
5/My privilege allowed me to isolate in a beach house in VA. While letting the dog out in the yard, he ran into the neighbors yard which displayed a no trespassing sign. And immediately, I feared I could be shot retrieving my dog.
6/Because apparently, I can be shot for doing much less, like sleeping in my own bed.
7/But apparently, we're back to Black people getting shot for things that everyone does, but because it was sleeping, and not running, we care less?
8/Some of us have no choice but to care, because it can happen to us. Even when we avoid it, or try to live thinking we shouldn't worry about these things all the time. We are constantly reminded that we are in danger because we are Black.
9/You should care too. All the time, not some of the time.
