Feminism terrifies authoritarians. I wrote this when #Saudi Crown Prince Mohamed Bin Salman began an unprecedented crackdown on women’s rights activists May 2018 that continues today. 13 of the activists are still on trial, five of them still in detention

The biggest threat the detained feminists pose to MBS & #Saudi regime is that their brave work has always been about more than abolishing the driving ban. It is about abolishing the guardianship system, the embodiment of patriarchy.
The vanguard of the social revolution in #Saudi Arabia is not a crown prince who claims to be an emancipator of women. The true leaders are the feminists he has detained and banned from travel for daring to demand their freedom.
