Dear Minnesota,
A thread about re-opening too soon:

When I discharge a patient from the hospital, we both know their illness isn’t over. They’re simply well enough to no longer need 24/7 nursing care or IV medicines. 1/8
When I send a patient home from the hospital, the goal is for them to stay home. Worst case scenario for me or them is to get worse at home and have to come back in. That is MY fault when it happens. 2/8
Being in the hospital is hard for my patient. Hard bc they are away from their family and friends. Hard bc they can’t work. Hard bc they will have a bill to pay at the end of their stay—a bill that gets bigger every day of hospitalization. #M4A 3/8
But if they go home too soon, they could suffer, struggle, and come back to the hospital worse off than they were. This leads to a longer hospital stay than would’ve happened if we’d just waited an extra day or two in the first place. 4/8
So I get it. We are all tired of quarantine. We are lonely and unsure of the future. We want to go back to our lives as they were. Quarantine is not sustainable.

But we are not well yet. 5/8
We need more than @GovTimWalz saying to open businesses at 50%.

➡️We need strict rules for people to follow including universal masking and physical distancing.

➡️We need MN to enforce these rules.

➡️We need our community based contact tracing force up and running. 6/8
➡️We need universal paid medical leave so people don’t go to work sick. @mn4pfl

And as always,

➡️We need more testing and we need more PPE. #GetUsPPE #TestTraceIsolate 7/8
So please Minnesota. I love you. But we need to be smarter than this. I don’t want to see us suffer and end up worse than we are now.

We are not well yet.
