Since 2016 the French security services, the SGDSN, raised significant concerns over the growing dominance of CCP connected vehicles systems, especially those that will be paired to #5G networks with Chinese hardware. Now their fears are coming to pass: techwireasia.com/2020/05/huawei…
Background: Since 2014 #Huawei has been engaging several European car manufactures to explore rolling out Huawei GPS technology for both autonomous vehicles, connected vehicles and GPS assisted navigation.
In 2016 French car manufacturer Groupe PSA signed a deal with Huawei called "Push to Pass" strategy for 2016 - 2021. #Huawei technology would allow car manufacturers will be able to track, in real-time, the location of a vehicle, and retain the data. A major #DataProtection issue
Generally, this data is not collected in real-time by car manufactures and this would be a significant departure from the status quo. In 2018 the CCP directed all Chinese car manufacturers to integrate such surveillance into their vehicle tracking systems
In October 2018 #Huawei also signed a research partnership agreement with Audi to collaborate on "intelligent connected vehicles. This is clearly an extension to that. Security services in Germany, Italy and France have all expressed concern about this technology.
The French have gone so far as to quietly ban these technologies from government vehicles. I can imagine this agreement will be a cause for heightened concern. #5G is only the foundation for a plethora of surveillance technologies CCP controlled companies have in their arsenal
These technologies are the edge devices on #5G networks and a vector of attack if you allow a High-Risk Vendor such ubiquitous access to the 5G ecosystem. These technologies are the Critical Infrastructure of the future and have a #NationalSecurity element that must be protected
For reference here is the list of areas and technologies that #Huawei is developing in the CCP's #MadeInChina 2025 plan. Nine out of the ten areas
And it would appear that #Huawei are to take the lead in the support technologies for #AutonomousVehicles in China, as evidenced by its latest agreement on vehicular ecosystems - gizchina.com/2020/05/09/hua…
