I have heard some of you. Updated digital security tips for #protesters. Everyone must make their own decisions based on their own circumstances. Ideally, leave all electronic devices at home. Burner phones are a second best choice. #protests #GeorgeFloyd
I know that is not realistic for many of you so bring as few electronic devices as possible. Disable face/fingerprint unlock. Use a 6+ digit passcodes, alphanumeric codes are even better. Don't consent to searches of your devices. Do not unlock your device for police. #protest
Use @signalapp to communicate with each other. Use its disappearing messages feature. Turn off GPS, NFC, Bluetooth, WiFi, and any location services. Lock down your social media privacy settings. Don't tag or post identifiable images of people without their permission.
Police are monitoring your accounts. While not perfect, sunglasses and hats make #FacialRecognition more difficult. Pair them with your face mask. If your device is taken from you, disconnect all of your accounts from it and change the passwords.
Police secure devices in Faraday bags or put them in airplane mode, preventing remote wiping. Trying to remotely wipe a device may result in additional charges. Pay for your Metrocards in cash. Paying with a credit card connects your card and your movements to your identity.
Follow this advice from my friend and colleague @TerriRosenblatt. Refuse any DNA swabs or offers of food or drinks.

Nothing is fool proof. No individual has infinite resources and there may be other viable options from those listed here. The goal is to protect your rights and #privacy as best as possible with the resources and options available to you.
