The debate about #SARSCov2 transmissibility in children and their viral load has intensified, in light of the new Israel high school superspreader event
ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulati…
The UK data shows no Δ by age (2-11 yrs v adults)
The viral load in children being similar across age groups (a preprint) by @c_drosten and colleagues
virologie-ccm.charite.de/fileadmin/user… engendered controversy, such as
medium.com/@d_spiegel/is-…
The Discussion of that preprint has been revised to address it
An unpublished report from Iceland showed child to adult and child to child transmission with genomic data, via @data_dinner
A report from Sweden of a teacher dying and 18 staff testing positive, but remarkably no children tested, is certainly absence of evidence

Some will take comfort that the high school in Jerusalem broke the rules for mitigation
jpost.com/israel-news/an… @Jerusalem_Post
Or that children have lower nasal ACE2 expression to protect them
jamanetwork.com/journals/jama/…
Or that young children may have cross-reactive antibodies and immune response from exposure to other coronaviruses
cell.com/cell/pdf/S0092…
But I think the bottom line is we don't know.
There needs to be more and better data to chase this down before anyone can proclaim that reopening schools is perfectly safe.
Adding the newly revised paper by @c_drosten and colleagues, #dataviz modified, + a useful figure, conclusions unchanged
