Thread: Do you think that when journalists took up jobs in places like Seattle, Louisville, New York, DC ...etc. that they ever thought it would be like reporting from a militarized zone? #pressfreedom
The attack on media and journalism over the last four years has done so much damage to the work of journalists and the role of and independent and free media. So much so that people responsible for the safety of citizens are now comfortable harming them.
There's work to be done on the side of media congolmerates too ie stemming the exhaustive 24 hr breaking news cycle and the sensationalism that's taken over some story telling.
But at the end of the day we rely on journalists to tell stories and give us information that otherwise we would not know, whether reporting on the front lines or breaking stories we didn't even know existed. We need journalists. We need media. And it needs to be free.

I watched the presser, and while Premier @jkenney didn't say it exactly like this, it was close enough, and I have a lot of thoughts. Buckle in. #ableg #abpoli #cdnpoli /1
Let's start with the fact that you're right @jkenney Indians are not going to be driving around in Teslas, that's because they drive @TataCompanies -- the biggest car manufacturer in India that makes cars specifically designed for efficiency and affordability in the country. /2
India actually has substantial ambitions on electric vehicles. In 2017 India's Minister of Transport committed to moving India to 100% electric vehicles by 2030. While the targets have changed, the ambition for cleaner roads and electrification has not. /3

Every time instances of racism rears its heads these days, I find myself less and less stunned. I don't have a more coherent response to this instance of brownface by Justin Trudeau compared to what has already been said by many apt and intelligent POC colleagues already.
But it is no doubt hurtful. This feels like a shock because we perceive Trudeau to be progressive. But even for the most woke, progressive, small-L liberal person, there is no substitution for the experience of a POC, white privilege is a wall.
This conversation isn't going away. In fact, this conversation has never gone away, just depends on where and with whom you've been talking to. Whether an apology suffices for the PM's actions is for every individual to determine, based on their own lived experience.
