One interesting difference between AV-45 (the old name for this tracer) and AV-1451 is the former has vitamin C added to the injection. The ionizing radiation for the F-18 is sufficient to break some of the chemical bonds on the tracer. 5/
This leads to radicals (single unpaired electrons) forming which lead to cascading reactions to destroy the AV-45. Vit C absorbs these stray radicals and prevents the entire batch from falling apart. Bonus: it's a safe anti-oxidant to inject! 6/
