A lot of us Indians are looking at the current situation in USA, and a lot of us on the better side of the spectrum (not Islamophobics, not Modi fanbois, not Hindustani-Bhau-following rabid hindu rashtravadis either) are also thinking we are kinda better off

Not sure if you are noticing beneath the layers of outrage and hashtag and the noise and headlines something succinct, something really important to take note of - even the racist themselves DO NOT want themselves to be called racists.

Trump is shouting "I am not a racist".

This is an important lesson in how far, literally how far a society has gone. Yes today's protests are to take it further, towards the ideals of racism not just being gone on paper, but gone in practice.

But you are looking at a society having progressed enough to detest racism

Now racism was the later battle. Fought in in the 1960's and 70's.
What came before, almost 100 years before - was the American Civil war in the 1860's

When we look at USA today, and some us think, well at least we do not have full-fledged civil war infront of 7 RCR or at least Modi is a bit better than Trump. We are missing the point by as much as the distance is from Washington to Delhi.

We are 200 years behind America. At the very least.

The worst part of it is, "child labour" talks of children in factories, never venturing into the domestic child labour issue, for what it's worth, even the most woke news anchors discussing these issues - probably have a "chotu" at home.

THAT IS OUR REALITY WE RUN AWAY FROM

Even when such a debate on child labour even tries to brush against that issue, on maybe a show like Left Right and Center on NDTV, some "economist" will barge in with wild theories like

"But they are earning members of family. We cannot dismantle this without side effects" WOW

Ok, taking a turn away from child labour. Let us discuss actual civil rights of minorities (which is what is plaguing the USA and triggered the protests).

The worst of the worst scum in the US would also not "want to be called", "racist" or "nazi" or "white supremacists".

Even if they are one, the consensus, the one thing in the entire debate 100% of USA at least agrees, is that at least these words denote something negative.

Down here in India, there are large swathes of Indians who have no issue calling themselves Hindu Nationalists.

No one blinks an eye as upper class middle class aunties treat maids as commodity and not human beings. The COVID-19 pandemic brought to light only the most deeply embedded truths no has to guts here to actually face.

While even the socialists, the liberals and the radical left tries to draw parallels between what is happening in USA with what is happening in India vis-a-vis Muslims and Dalits (comparing #CAA protests with the #BLM protests).

EVEN THEY are missing how far behind we really are

Has @narendramodi / @PMOIndia has for even once spoken out against a single human being getting lynched to death on the streets. (Hell even the Hindus getting lynched?)

Trump, the White House and the Republican Party, has since then, countless times, gone on record emphasizing how they are NOT racist, have done "so much" for the black people. At least they want their perception to be that

At least they haven't said "Yeah we're racist, so what?"

The by and large response of BJP, the Govt and Narendra Modi has been pretty much this -

BJP - Yes Muslims should be killed. Go fuck yourself if you disagree

Govt - Let's roll out these laws that will turn you out of India

Modi - Gee, listen to my ManKiBaat about fairy tales

We have a party, a Govt and a HUUUUGE chunk of people having successfully turned the word "SECULAR" as something negative. Just think.

They try to mock the word "SECULAR", imply it shouldn't have been in the constitution and do NOT want India to be "SECULAR".

Something comparable to that would be if America tried to legalise slavery again, rewrote laws that said Blacks are lesser human beings than Whites, and inserted a para in the constitution that said "Racism is the birthright of Americans"

So yeah we are still centuries behind.
