Did you know?

If a mother is Rh negative and the father is Rh positive, the baby has at least a 50% chance of being Rh positive.

And this can lead to miscarriage or Still birth!

It is preventable with a special immunization and many people don’t know!

Rhesus (Rh) is the + or - sign attached to your blood group (e.g: I am O+)

A baby's Rh status is determined from the mother and father, however, babies have a 50% chance of inheriting the Rhesus factor of their biological fathers.

This is why we advice women with Rhesus -ve
... blood groups to talk to their doctors before/during pregnancy, , especially if they have ever been pregnant before (regardless of the out come: miscarriage, still birth or neonatal death).

Once a Rhesus -ve woman is pregnant with a Rhesus +ve child, her antibodies become...
...sensitized to attack the baby’s blood cells. This happens if her baby’s blood mixes with hers, Cos the antibodies perceive the baby’s RBCs as an enemy. This is called Rhesus Iso immunization or Rhesus incompatibility and can lead to “Hemolytic disease of the Fetus or newborn”.
Depending on severity of sensitization, the baby can either be born with severe jaundice from the excessive red blood cell destruction, pregnancy can be miscarried, or baby can die in utero (in the womb). All these are poor outcomes for mother and child.
Rhesus -ve women, get prophylactic immunization (Rhogam), during (28 weeks gestation) & after each pregnancy (within 72 hours post delivery), to prevent “Rhesus Iso immunization” in the current pregnancy and the next.
What is your Blood group and Rhesus factor? Don’t guess, do a test!

Fathers are heroes, #HappyFathersDay2020 to all Fathers. We love and appreciate you.
Note:
It’s only affects Rhesus -ve women.

Being RH-ve means that you don’t have the Rh factor. So when a RH+ baby comes in = sensitization.

When the woman is RH+ve, she already has the factor in her so a:

-Rh- baby: No factor, No sensitization
-Rh+ baby has her factor, so👌
