On the morning of 17th October 2019, I lost the first-ever reader and subscriber to my posts, my greatest motivator and my most vocal critic.

I lost my father. Image
When he passed away, family and friends told me that the grief would subside with time, that time would dull the pain. The pain of realizing that he isn’t there anymore – though in a way he still is – remains as strong.
Confucius said that we have two lives, and the second begins when we realize we only have one.

Papa was born in 1949, but his second life probably began in 1971 when he met “Anand”.

I am 48yo & only recently started calling my father, Dad. It was a conscious choice as he has finally earned my trust after decades of absence & disappointments. Our relationship is finally genuine, not contrived, it is meaningful & safe. I feel loved & sacred in his presence.
My Dad, Martin is a retired college professor & published author. For decades the world was robbed of his brilliance due to the disease of addiction & I was robbed of his presence due to a legal system which criminalized his disease.
While incarcerated, Martin never stopped writing me. However, due to my own hurt, I stopped reading them but still saved them. However, I always read the books he sent & my love for poetry & the Harlem Renaissance is owed to his parenting from behind the wall.

May every child know the safety of a love like this. #HappyFathersDay to the best #GirlDad my husband, Conan. Cora has been nurtured by your love, covered by your prayers & inspired by your example. She is kind, smart, strong, confident, & knows her worth. Image
What a gift it has been to see your love deepen & your bond strengthen with each year. Image
I remember the care & pride you took w/doing her hair, carrying her on your shoulders, being the only one that could quiet her cries as a baby, your patience when teaching her to ride a bike or to solve a math problem. She will contd to grow & change but one constant remains.

Happy Fathers Day to ALL the fathers (who handle their business every day).
And, yet never get nor covet the spotlight..

We see you.
We appreciate you.

.... They dust off all the ol' talking points (absent fathers, food-stamps) and, still they fail because they minimize the greatest attack on the black man in human history, the most devastating and ruthless attack on Black people -- ever: The Trans Atlantic Slave Trade
“With great fanfare, these conservatives declare the historic battle against racial caste to have been won. They go on to say that, but for the behavioral dysfunction of the black poor and the misguided demands...”

Some 23 years ago I went to my Father's office to collect monies for some school supplies including books. His Orderly asked that I wait that my Dad was in a certain rush but I had to go back to Ekpoma from Benin the same day so I walked into the office.
I saw the rush as he was standing to leave, but seeing me he had to attend to my needs. My father is or was not one who would give you money without justification, so he scrutinised my list and I defended every kobo. Suddenly his doors was pushed open and I heard his loud voice..
Morning Sir, it was his Boss, the Commissioner of Police Edo state.

CP: Mr. Eboigbe you must be an idiot

Dad: Yes Sir

CP: How dare you keep me waiting, are you normal?

Dad: I am very sorry Sir.

For those who don’t know, my father was born in Poland and immigrated to the US in 1980. For Father’s Day, he asked for a history lesson on racism and Black rebellion in the US. We worked backwards from his first question – Does #DefundPolice really mean what I think it means?
"Yes, yes it does. It means abolishing the police," I say.

He responds, "I know that the police don't make Black people feel safe, but they make me feel safe. So what do we do? I need to understand because I can't see where we're going with this."
We covered slavery, slave patrols, Juneteenth, Reconstruction, lynchings, Black codes, convict leasing, the New Deal, redlining, Jim Crow, Brown v Board of Ed, Ruby Bridges, Civil Rights Mvmt, gerrymandering, mass incarceration, stop & frisk, gang databases, BLM, #DefundPolice...

Therefore fear them not.

Daddy, although I only had you physically for 5 years before an assassin’s bullet cut your life short, you have had a profound impact on the woman and leader I am today. Your powerful examples of love and revolutionary nonviolence have been a blueprint for my life. 1) Image
Even in death, your words and messages continue to inspire and teach humanity on our journey to a more just, equitable, peaceful, humane world. The dream still lives and your legacy continues. Missing you, your moral leadership and your voice greatly in today’s climate. #MLK 2) Image
I will continue to represent you and my mother as best I can as long as God gives me the breath and strength to do so. We won’t stop until systems, institutions and policies reflect that #BlackLivesMatter in this nation and across the globe. #HappyFathersDay, Daddy. #MLK Image

Did you know?

If a mother is Rh negative and the father is Rh positive, the baby has at least a 50% chance of being Rh positive.

And this can lead to miscarriage or Still birth!

It is preventable with a special immunization and many people don’t know!

My late father sang me this song when I failed a school exam & was upset. He told me never to let failures break you & your trust in life.

He told me that he was passing on words of his father (my grandfather) who told him & sang the same when he failed in an exam.
The song, by the way, is from Dulhari (Darling) movie released in 1949. My father and grand father both loved to watch movies. It was pretty common thing to go to a cinema in those days in cities.
Also, #HappyFathersDay to me. I have a couple of more clips to add this compilation.

As a young girl, I can't remember mum bathing me, it was you all through, I can't remember mum brushing my teeth, it was you. While you dressed me up and got me ready for school, mum was busy in the kitchen making breakfast.

I never took public transport for one day! I could remember vividly you coming to OAU solely to give me freshly homemade stew prepared by Mum. That one hour drive was nothing to you because you ALWAYS put our needs (and sometimes even our wants) first. ALWAYS!

#HappyFathersDay
You made sure I had all I needed. I learned to appreciate your care for me and I never took it for granted or took undue advantage of it. I learned contentment.

Daddy, You took me to NYSC camp and you came to pick me up when it was over.

#HappyFathersDay #HappyFathersWay

The fondest memory I have of my father was the day he said to me " Ayo, what will you use to surpass me? I surpassed my father, my father never bought a car in his life, I bought one and drove him in it. If you buy a car tomorrow, you haven't surpassed me. #FathersDay #Thread
No matter how more expensive it is to mine. My father never built a house of his own, he stayed until his death in the house that was co-builded with his brother. I built my own house. Ayo, what will you use to surpass me?? "
When I ponder upon this golden conversation I see two sides to it.

One side says, Ayo, hustle o! Make you no go fall the generational trend of erasing paucity started by your father. Like Drake, he started from the bottom, did house help jobs to study. Became an engineer.

The 8-year-old son of a CIA officer called these shoes “Dad’s lucky boots” after he learned how his father wore these boots while deployed as part of Team Alpha, the first tactical team sent to Afghanistan after 9/11.

#FathersDay #HappyFathersDay #MyDadMyHero #thanksdad
The CIA officer wore these boots almost 24 hours a day for 3 months: climbing mountains, forging rivers, & riding Afghan horses.

He also survived a deadly ambush by al-Qaida prisoner-fighters in the Qala-I-Jangi fortress on November 25, 2001.

Now in CIA Museum, these artifacts bear the title “Dad’s Lucky Boots” to recognize sacrifices our officers & their families make in service to their country.

#HappyFathersDay to all the dads who serve. A grateful nation celebrates you today.

Good morning, Senator @KeithPerryFL, and #HappyFathersDay! My name is Ryan and I am a #PublicEd advocate living, learning, and teaching in #HCPS just south of you in the Tampa area. I read your op-ed in the @GainesvilleSun and would like to offer some additional perspective (1)
(2) and perhaps clarify why you are seeing so many negative op-eds about what you and your fellow legislators have wrought over the last 20 years (and especially the last 3-5). I will move through your op-ed paragraph by paragraph in the hopes of sharing additional data / studies
(3) First paragraph: to say that a "claim is completely false" is absurd, because we, the actual educators who are working with our students every single day, must live with the ramifications created by unfundated mandates as well as constant changes and disruptions from testing.
