With reports that the Trump administration is barring certain foreign workers in the H1B, H2B, J1 & L1 categories from US entry, we estimate this would keep 219,000 temporary workers out
Included in these totals are the spouses and minor children who enter the U.S. as derivatives of the worker's visa
Beyond barring temporary workers applying from abroad in certain categories, the White House is extending the legal immigration ban it first unveiled in April, citing the COVID19-related job loss
The White House is extending through Dec. a ban on greencards for those applying outside the U.S. EXCEPT for
☑️Spouses & minor children of US citizens
☑️Healthcare workers
☑️Military members & family
☑️Special immigrant visas
☑️Investors
☑️Individual national interest decisions
We estimate the Trump #greencard ban keeps about 26,000 legal immigrants from entering the U.S. each month
By extending his ban on certain legal immigration categories through December, President Trump will be blocking another 158,000 would-be immigrants from entering the U.S. to reunite with relatives or join an employer petitioning for them
Based on a review of FY2019 #greencard grants, here are the *annual* totals in the greencard categories being blocked by the Trump administration through December
Altogether, we estimate that today’s Trump proclamation on immigration could bar the entry through the end of 2020 of about:

🔹 219,000 temporary workers & their families
🔹 158,000 greencard applicants
Today’s Trump proclamation aimed at reducing temporary workers & extending greencard ban may have little immediate practical effect as State Department routine visa services remain suspended as a result of #COVID19

With Trump proclamation out, which outlines exemptions for some J-1 visa categories, the administration will not permit entry for temporary workers & their dependents in these visa categories
