The #PublicCharge rule out today may:
🔸Cause immigrants & their US-born kids to withdraw in big numbers from public benefit programs for which they are eligible
🔸Dramatically change future legal immigration flows
🔸Shift policy on access to benefits

Among other things, the rule gives the administration enormous discretion to deny admission to intending immigrants with incomes or financial assets below 250 percent of the poverty line (about $62,000 for a family of four)
This could significantly reshape immigration from Asia, Latin America & Africa.

We took a look at recent immigrants to see the shares with incomes below 250% of federal poverty ⬇️
And by top 15 countries ⬇️
Looking at recent green-card recipients to get a sense of how the revised public charge assessment could affect future admissions, we found 27% -- or 549,000 people -- had at least one negative factor (age, income, English proficiency, etc.)
