Folks are trolling Multnomah County inmate search and using legal name as a starting point to doxx and harass folks. There are a variety of steps to take here for privacy...

First step is to guard your fundamental info... consider a PO box or UPS "permanent address" box and use it everywhere. If the zip is the same as your physical addr, this permanent addr can even be used for voter registration.

For folks unfamiliar, if you're registered to vote in OR, finding your addr is as easy as searching by name / DOB:

Back to guarding your data... check out a VPN (ProtonVPN is fantastic), protect your IP address, get a google voice or burner phone, protect your key email address and use alts in places you want anonymity.

Also know that folks trying to doxx you will dig through archive sites. So even if you've updated a website, if it was previously indexed by the Internet Archive (or similar services), previous iterations of said page can be pulled up

As for identity scrubbing from scum-sucking digital snitch ass websites like whitepages, spokeo, etc etc... you need a decent site that will aggregate online results and let you bulk delete.

A critical point... the time to do this preparation is PROACTIVELY. After an arrest or when some piece of shit like Andy Ngo publishes personal data is not the time we want to have to figure this stuff out. Removal through onerep.com and other sites takes time

We want to think about these issues holistically... we shouldn't deprive ourselves of social media spaces where we share photos / posts with family and friends, but considering content visibility and identity compartmentalization is critical...

Keep sensitive organizing work in a space and under an identity that is separate from your public space. So your flickr or facebook can be a space that is separate from any work that you don't want to mix inadvertently
