THREAD: We need your help! An extremist event organized by The Walkaway Campaign (Brandon Straka and Dinesh D'Souza) is scheduled for Tuesday, November 5th, at the Melody Event Center in SE Portland. 1/10 #WalkAwayFromPDX
Over the last week, we’ve repeatedly reached out to the Melody Event Center directly over the phone as well as through email, Instagram, and Facebook. They have made it clear they have no intention of canceling this event. In fact, they hung up on us yesterday. 2/10
This event will be used to unite local, violent far-right activists as well as fascist groups with larger national networks.

This is exacly the type of event that brought us Unite the Right, the infamous 2017 rally that resulted in the murder of Heather Heyer. 3/10

Short thread: A number of you have asked us what we're doing this weekend. For us this weekend is about community support and ongoing #EverydayAntifascist work.
Like many of you, many of us will be #AUnitedFront at the Timbers game on Sunday. The #EverydayAntifascist work the @timbersarmy has been doing with other clubs in the MLS is absolutely inspiring: wweek.com/news/2019/09/1…
But we're also going be doing a lot of reading and sharing articles, funny comics, and ideas for antifascist things you can do between actions. Because, while getting out in the street is a very important part of antifascist work, it's not the only antifascist work to be done.

Last spring, Dad was diagnosed with non-hodgkins lymphoma. He went through chemo with flying colors-even helping to design his own birthday present, a garden statue, in September. 2/
He is an adventurer, and a homebody, if that is even possible. Always willing to lend a helping hand, he was a #community leader and a silent snow angel for his elderly neighbours. 3/

I would say most indigenous traditions regardless of ethnic background (yes including Christianity think sacrificial lamb) all have an element of sacrifice and giving offering to spirits as a way to get spirits to work for you and with you
Unfortunately many of us in the west + raised under dominant Abrahamic religions (esp Christianity) are not taught the spiritual importance of offerings because technically we never really have to *give* Jesus anything. So the concept of feeding spirits can seem wasteful

Me : Easy. You put IT in charge. It's a lot faster for engineers to learn about business than it is for business to learn about engineering.
X : There's a lot to learn about business.
Me : No there isn't, it's mostly story telling. Engineers won't have any issue with finance & law, most will know how to build teams and the strategy / leadership parts of business are mostly snake oil ... it's not like engineering.

I'm taking a class this term in #ReproductiveJustice and I have got to say, it's really eye opening how narrowly we look at it as a society. Almost all of the focus is on abortion (currently the hot button issue in #Oregon) but there is so SO much more to it!
From my own personal experience as an advocate for #ReproRights this course has forced me to step back and come to terms with how "white" my views have been and how even when focusing on access to reproductive options, it's been a focus on white middle class women. 2/n
Even during times when the focus was on people of color, the solutions that were given used white cis women as the standard. When talking about poverty, it was the poverty of white cis women. Access? Same thing. People of color were often an afterthought. 3/n
