THREAD.
Afghan Special Forces, the elite fighters are on various frontlines across the country. I tagged along with these young men for some missions. Here is what happened in Kandahar today while they were on a rescue mission after spending the whole night on a combat mission. Image
The objective was to extract a wounded policeman trapped by Taliban insurgents on the outskirts of Kandahar city for the last 18 hours. The particular district is contested between the government and the Taliban. ImageImageImage
I could feel the tension in the air as ASF were expecting an imminent attack from the Taliban. There was sporadic machine gun fire but all hell broke loose as the Humvees reached the extraction point. Image

Latest dispatch from the foothills of the Himalayas in India’s Uttarakhand.
We met Pramila Devi, the day she tested positive for COVID19. The doctor advised her husband to take her to a bigger hospital, but the cost was a deterrent. The couple returned home. @Reuters Image
We spent the next day with the family as Devi laid on bed gasping for breath in their small house. Finally, the family could manage a jeep to take her to the local dispensary. Her two young children watched, as their father got their mother ready. ImageImageImage
At the dispensary, another patient was using the only oxygen cylinder available. The oxygen concentrator did not work due to a power outage. The young doctor at the dispensary pleaded with an electricity department employee over the phone, as he paced the dispensary wearing PPE. ImageImageImage

Sah, a COVID19 patient was lying with regular patients in an emergency ward as there were no beds in the ICU. Next day the rusted oxygen trolley broke as he was being shifted. Sah's wife and son fed him everyday in ICU. His son tested +ve after a week. ImageImageImage
The state’s healthcare problems are particularly stark in rural Bihar, where government infrastructure is even more rudimentary. In Ismailpur, a village an hour’s drive from Bhagalpur, this is the state of #COVID19 testing and isolation ward at a Primary Health Centre. ImageImageImage
