According to a response the agency provided today. there were only 2 Significant Incident Reports or Significant Event Notifications regarding suicide attempts by people imprisoned at facilities in the New Orleans Field Office from Jan-Apr 2019. 1/x

One happened at GEO's LaSalle facility on April 17, 2019 around 3pm. A Sudanese man used a razor blade to slit his wrists. He had to go to LaSalle General for sutures. Yet the report says no injuries occurred. 2/x

The other SIR was an attempted self-strangulation with a sheet by a #Cameroonian asylum-seeker on January 26 at CoreCivic's Tallahatchie facility in Tutwiler, Mississippi.

His fellow detained migrants were able to intervene and save his life.

Here's why these records matter:

ICE's purportedly "independent" auditor - The Nakamoto Group - which conducts annual site inspections for $, either failed to discover this attempt or filed a false audit at Tallahatchie. Incompetent or dishonest. Pick 1. ice.gov/doclib/facilit…

Jennifer Nakamoto, call your office. Pretty sure this form your LCI signed is false. And ICE knows it. Might wanna call @BennieGThompson, @AyannaPressley @RepMaloney, and @RepJayapal's offices, too, and apologize for insinuating you were better at this than @DHSOIG

Here's a screenshot of the audit's Significant Incident Summary. Notice anything? Oh yeah. There are 4x as many suicide attempts there as what ICE FOIA released to us through this request.

Finally, it's important contextualize for elected officials and advocates and courts, and most important, the souls being caged for profit, why these aren't just reporting failures. Congress uses these inspections to determine whether to defund a facility. The audit results = $$$

If we're going to build the factual and legal record that ICE must be abolished and these for-profit cages are going to be eliminated once and for all as a matter of policy, #FOIA is among our greatest weapons.

1. Call on your elected officials to demand immediate oversight of ICE's suicide prevention efforts, and the audit failures documented above.

2. Call on local officials to cancel these contracts.
