This post is a compilation of all the postal stamps issued by Indian Government on Jainism & Jain personalities.

The first stamp on Jainism was issued in India by Saurashtra State, before Independence on 18 Oct 1929. This stamp bears a view of Girnar Hills where 22nd Jain Tirthankar Neminath Bhagwan had attained Nirvana. Girnar is an important Jain pilgrimage centre.
On 6 May 1935 Indian Govt. issued first stamp on Jainism depicting Shitalnath Jain Temple of Kolkata. The temple was constructed by Rai Badridas Bahadoor Mookim in 1868. The stamp was issued to commemorate the Silver Jubilee of King George V regime.
A Rs.15 stamp depicting the Shatrunjaya Temple of Palitana was issued on 15 August 1949. It is of a Tirthankar Bhagwan Rishabhnath’s temple built in the year 1618. The temple is famous for its excellent fine carving and architecture.
On 31 Dec 1957, a postal stamp was issued on Bombay University. Rajabai Tower shown in the stamp is a famous clock tower in the campus of University. The tower was named after Rajabai, mother of a well known Jain - Cotton & Bullion king, Premchand Roychand
World renowned scientist Vikram Sarabhai (1919 - 1971) was the first Jain dignitary honoured by the Govt by issuing a stamp on 30 Dec 1972. The stamp was issued showing him with 'Rohini’ rocket and a Dove. He was the father of India's Space Programme.
On the accasion of 2500th Nirvana Anniversary of Bhagwan Mahavira, Govt of India issued a stamp on 13 Nov 1974. The stamp depicted the Jal Mandir of Pawapuri, Bihar where Bhagwan Mahavira attained Nirvana.
The first stamp on Jainism issued from outside India came from East Germany. On 23 Aug 1979 their Postal Department issued four stamps on Indian miniature paintings. One of these showed the beautiful painting of Lord Mahavira from the fifteenth century.
A 58 feet high idol of Bhagwan Bahubali called Gommateshwara, son of Tirthankar Rishabhdev was erected by the Chamundaraya in 981 A.D.
Govt. of India issued a postage stamp on the occasion of the millennium year celebrations of the idol on 9 Feb 1981.
Karmaveer Bhaurao Patil (1887-1959) was a renowned social worker & philanthropist. He founded 'Rayat Shikshan Sanstha' & dedicated his life to the task of rural mass education. He was a Padma Bhushan awardee. On 9 May 1988 a stamp was issued to honour him
Jain Muni Mishrimalji (1891-1984) born in Pali was an extempore poet & vigorous orator. He composed over 5000 pages of prose & poetry. Govt issued a stamp on 24 Aug 1991 depicting the portrait of the Muni and his samadhi 'Marudhar Kesari Pavandham' at Jaitaran.

On the occasion of the centenary of the Baroda Museum a se-tenant pair (set of two stamps) was issued on 20 Dec 1994. This se-tenant stamp bears the picture of the ancient bronze statue of Tirthankara Rishabhdev. The idol is exhibited in the Baroda Museum
Jagdish Chandra Jain (1909 - 1994) was a world renowned scholor and writer. He was the authority on Jain studies. He had written more than 80 books on Jain philosophy and Sanskrit & Prakrit literature. Govt honoured him by issuing a stamp on 28 Jan 1998.
Acharya Shri Tulsiji (1914 - 1997) was born in Ladnun. He was the founder of Anuvrat Movement and Jain Vishva Bharti Institute. He received "Indira Gandhi National Integration Award"
Govt. of India issued a postage stamp in his honour on 20 Oct 1998.
Jhaverchand K Meghani (1896 -1947)was a noted Jain poet, writer, social reformer and freedom fighter. He is well-known name in Gujarati folk literature. Mahatma Gandhi gave him the title of Rashtriya Shaayar.On 14 Sep 1999 a stamp was issued to honour him
Raja Bhamashah (1542 - 1598) was the friend & adviser of Maharana Pratap. His loyal support was pivotal to the career of the Maharana. Modern historians describe him as the "Uplifter of Mewar". Govt. of India issued a postage stamp in his honour on 31 Dec 2000.

On the 2600th Janm Kalyanak year of Bhagwan Mahavira, Govt issued a stamp on 6 Apr 2001.The stamp depicts the unique symbol of Jain teachings of Ahimsa Paramodharma adopted with the words Parasparopagraho Jivanam by all Jain groups.
V. Shantaram (1901 - 1990) born in Kolhapur to a humble Jain family, was the greatest film director of Indian film industry. He was honoured by Dadasaheb Phalke & Padma Vibhushan awards. Govt of India issued a postage stamp in his honour on 18 Nov 2001.
Acharya Anand Rishiji Maharaj (1900 -1992) was a Jain religious leader. The Govt. of India issued a commmemorative postage stamp in his honour on 9 August 2002. He was awarded with the honorary title of Rashtra Sant. He was born in Ahmednagar on 27 July 1900.
Indra Chandra Shastri (1912-1986) was an intellect & an authority on philosophy, poetics, religion, culture, indology, grammer. His contribution are evident in the field of Pali, Prakrit, Philosophy & History.The stamp was issued to honour him on 27 Mar 2004
Aacharya Bhikshu (1726 - 1803) was born in Kantaliya (Raj). He was the founder of Swetamber Terapanth Sect. He was a Philosopher Saint, Perceptive Writer & Social Reformer.
Govt of India issued a postage stamp in his honour on 30 Jun 2004.
Walchand Hirachand (1882-1953) was a Jain patriotic industrialist & founder of the Walchand Group. He established India’s First:
- Modern Shipyard
- Aircraft Factory
- Car Factory
On 23 Nov 2004 Govt released a stamp to honour the great entrepreneur.
Jawaharlal Darda (1923-1997) was a freedom fighter & a journalist who laid the foundation of people-oriented journalism. He launched marathi newspaper Lokmat and set up many educational Institute in the vidarbha. A stamp was issued on 2 Dec 2005 to honour him.

Lala Deen Dayal (1844 - 1905) was born in Meerut in a Jain family of jewellers. He is considered as a pioneer of Indian photography. Nizam of Hyderabad appointed him as his court photographer & conferred upon him the title of 'Raja".
Acharya Vallabh Suriji (1870 -1954) was the founder of Mahavir Jain Vidyalaya & many educational institutes. He worked for improving the social life of people of all religions. He was known as 'Punjab Kesari'. On 21 Feb 2009 a stamp was issued to honour him.
Harak Chand Nahata (1936 -1999) was a Jain industrialist who was first to start road transport in the difficult & inhabitable terrain of Tripura. His contribution to Indian Film Industry is also appreciated. On 28 Feb 2009 a stamp was issued to honour him
The two temples of Rajasthan which are considered sacred by Jains & which also have architectural abundance are Dilwara and Ranakpur Temples. Govt of India on 14 Oct 2009 was happy to honour India's heritage by issuing both these stamps.
Virchand Raghavji Gandhi (1864 - 1901) was a Jain scholar who represented Jainism at the First World Parliament of Religions in Chicago in 1893. He is well known as 'Gandhi before Gandhi'. Govt issued a stamp to honour him on 8 Nov 2009.
Mahasati Umrao Kunwar ji 'Archana' (1922 - 2009) was born in Kisangarh. She authored widely acclaimed book; 'Archana Ke Phool'. She was regarded as Kashmir Pracharika.
Government of India issued a Commemorative postage stamp in her honour on 30 April 2011
Dr. Daulat Singh Kothari (1906 - 1993) a Scientist and Padma Bhushan & Padma Vibhushan awardee was regarded as the architect of Defence Science in India. He played imp role in development of NCERT. Govt issued a stamp to honour him on 6 Jul 2011.
Acharya Jaimalji Maharaj (1708 - 1796) was an authority on Jain Agamas. He was a social reformer & worked for the upliftment of women. He worked for eradication of untouchability, sati pratha & child marriage. On 25 Sep 2011 a stamp was issued to honour him.
Godiji Temple situated at Pydhonie, Mumbai is a Bhagwan Parshvanatha temple established in 1812 by Moti Shah. The idol in the temple is a major source of attraction. On 17 Apr 2012 Govt issued a stamp to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the temple.
Karpoor Chandra 'Kulish' (1926 - 2006) started his career in journalism as an employee in a newspaper. In 1956 he started his own newspaper Rajasthan Patrika. His compilation of all existing 11 Samhitas of 4 Vedas, titled as 'Shabd Vedas' has been a rare work
Tarachand Barjatya(1914 - 1992) founder of Rajshri Production was a famous Jain film producer. He made family oriented films like Dosti, Geet Gaata Chal & Maine Pyar Kiya. Govt issued a stamp to honour him on 3 May 2013 celebrating 100 years of Indian Cinema.
Acharya Gyansagar Ji (1891-1973) was a scholar of ancient Jain literature. 'Manav Dharma' & 'Vivekodaya' are his literary composition. His epic poem 'Rishabhavatara' was inspired by 1st Tirthankara Rishabh Dev. On 10 Sep 2013 a stamp was issued to honour him.
Acharya Vimal Sagar Ji (1916-1994) had a good knowledge of traditional medicine system. He authored many books. He performed more than 100 dikshas and travelled walking more than 50000 km preaching Jainism. A stamp was issued on 14 Dec 2016 to honour him.
Shrimad Rajchandraji (1867-1901) was a spiritual mentor of Mahatma Gandhi. At a very younger age he mastered almost all the treatises on philosophy with the sole purpose of discovering the Ultimate Truth.On 29 Jun 2017 a stamp was issued to honour him.
Las Vegas Jain Temple Story:
This Jain temple was constructed for the 1904 St. Louis World's fair, termed 'Louisiana Purchase Exposition'. The Jain temple was made of teakwood and was a copy of a white marble temple 8 times as large at Palitana
The reproduction took 2 years work of 65 artists and was made expressly for the fair. The beauty of the temple is that it can be dismantled into approx. 1600 parts and can be boxed. The structure is of the size 15 ft X 20 ft X 35 ft high and weighs nearly 4500 Kg.
The temple is a rare surviving eg. of Indian tradition of wooden architecture. It is believed that it was originally carved at the Ahmedabad Woodcarving Co. jointly run by Maganbhai Hutheesing and Lockwood de Forest, a painter & an architect of New York city.

He set up his first studio in Indore in 1868. Later he set up studios in Hyderabad and Bombay. He took more than 6000 photographs. In 2006 Indian Govt issued a stamp to honour him.
The below photograph is of the ceiling of Jain Temple at Chittorgarh taken in 1882.
Lala Deen Dayal was appointed as the photographer to the Viceroy of India in 1885. In 1905-06, he accompanied the Royal tour of the Prince & Princess of Wales.

It is said that the mothers of would-be Tirthankaras witness 14 auspicious objects in their dreams. Mata Trishala also had these dreams, which filled her with wonder. She told King Sidharth about the dreams. He told her that these dreams seemed very auspicious.
The 1st dream Queen Trishala had was of an Elephant.
This dream indicated that Queen would give birth to a child with exceptionally good character. The four tusk signified that he would guide the spiritual chariot with its four components: monks, nuns, laymen and laywomen.
The 2nd dream Queen Trishala had was of a Bull. The bull was noble, grand and had a majestic hump. Its horns were superb and sharply pointed.
This dream indicated that her son would be highly religious and spiritual teacher. He would help cultivate religion.
Jains celebrate five major events in the life of a Tirthankara. They are called Kalyanak (auspicious events).
They are: 1. Chyavana Kalyanak 2. Janma Kalyanak 3. Diksha Kalyanak 4. Kevaljnana Kalyanak 5. Nirvana Kalyanak
Janma Kalyanak:
This is the event when the Tirthankara Soul is born. Snatra Puja is a ritual celebrating this event in which Indra does abhisheka on the Tirthankara on Mount Meru.
